Cheap Fish Food

I had a catalog from a supplier for fish farming . In the catalog there was a light similar to a bug zapper but this light didn't kill the bugs , it just stunned them & caused them to fall in the water . The light had a dusk to dawn type sensor & only burned at night . You suspended the light over a pond , on a wire or cable . Lots of free fish food every night .

Best cheap fish food generator i ever saw was a small hardware cloth cage, open on top and bolted to an 8" post next to a pond. basket was over the water. guy threw roadkill in there whenever he found it. Flies, eggs, maggots. Maggots dropping constantly into the water. Biggest Bluegills I have ever seen

I have 2 buglights hanging close to the water and a yard light in another location. Fat fish and frogs. I recently got smarter and planted 3 mulberry trees close to the water. A pond on our farm had one hanging over the water and that was the place to catch fat bullheads.

I don't think my wife would go with the roadkill idea. Too close to the house. Good idea though.

In Michigan, that action could be ticketable by DNR officer as "littering"--from the Fishing Regs....It is unlawful to: "Deposit litter, fish offal, or any foreign matter, in any waters of the state or on any lands, private or public."

electricity and water don't mix, hopefully the light wouldn't get knocked into the water in a storm

You dont put the roadkill in the water you put it OVER the water so the maggots drop in the water.
No law against bugs in the water is there?

The zapper I referred to isn't the same one in the posted link . The one I referred to looked very much like a lawn type zapper . I haven't found the catalog as I have boxes full of books , magazines , catalogs , ect. stored away . If I find it I will post the info.

ive read a discussion on here about doing the same for feeding chickens treats i think its a wonderful idea! plus the fly population will drop as they will be attracted to that area over dog poop and etc then fall off into the mouths of some very hungry bluegill or rhode island reds
