Flea Meds That Work

Other than Frontline and Advantage, are there any others that truly work. It seems that F and A get less and less effective each summer.

I use NomoFlea. I get it from the Dinovite website. Little tube, but just a little dab will do ya. I use it on our old dog. I didn't want to use any chemicals on him with him so old. Natural oils, and it smells good. You can use it on yourself for a mosquito repellant.

I believe both of these are systemic, you may need to go to a different mode spray on or bath type. Talk to a vet.

Have you ever tried Diatamecous Earth? It can be sprinkled on the animal, sprinkled on your carpet, on the edges of your carpet, in his dog bed, etc.. It kills fleas, silverfish, etc...

If my dogs have enough copper in their diet, no fleas and no ticks.

How does one get enough copper for their dog? One of mine has severe reactions to Frontline & Advantage.

Revolution, it's pricey but it works and it treats a number of other things besides fleas, it also kills mites and worms.

My vet and I argue about this. I love to use Sentenial on my dogs. Sentinel is the only monthly oral preventive that guards against heartworms, adult roundworms, adult hookworms and whipworms, and prevents the development of flea eggs. However, it does not kill fleas. It just makes them unable to reproduce. I find that if I use it all year long on my dogs, fleas are never an issue. They might get a few here and there, but they soon die off.
I tried taking them off of it in the winter months when pests aren't to bad, but in the spring we were overrun with fleas. So now I leave them on year around and we are fine. My vet prefers meds that kill the fleas outright. Neither of us are wrong, it's just a matter of which i prefer.

Cheap soap flakes.

The soap doesn't kill the fleas, it grosses them out and they move on to a place where there is no soap.

If your dogs are already infested with fleas, give them a bath using Dawn dish soap.

I've used this method for over 30 years. It's always worked for me.

We haven't had a flea or tick problem on our two shiz tsu dogs since we
started using Comfortis which comes in a beef flavored tablet. Even though
it is supposed to be flavored to appeal to dogs mine will spit out the pill unless
it is 'hidden' inside a chunk of cheese or hotdog. We use the 10-20 lb. dose
on them and it costs $20 per pill at the vet's office or if you buy a 6 pack at
the petmeds.com site you can get it for $97 with free shipping.

Comfortis in the dogs and Revolution on the cats.
Amazing! Both of them really do it.

I bathe the dogs in dandruff shampoo once a month and then treat with Adams (@ WalMart). I buy the large dog doseage and split between my heelers, corgis and the mutt. Lasts at least two months and it's 13.xx.

I use Bio Spot. It works like Frontline but at 1/3 the cost. It really keeps the ticks off and we have lots here. Supposed to work on fleas too but we don't have many. I get it from Fleet Farm and have seen it in the local hardware stores too.

I gave my dog a bath and slathered her with cheap $1 store hair conditioner. After trying every thing else I could think of this worked. So I keep a bottle on hand just in case.
We don't treat unless we see symptoms.

Move to where there aren't any fleas. Believe me, it's nice to not have to worry about them.

I have seen 2 ticks in the past 40 years, so we do have ticks here, and occasionally vacationers bring fleas over the mountains on their dogs. Or you can get fleas on your dog if you take the dog over to The Valley or coast.

My vet started our dogs with a different flea/tick med..Vectra. It works well. Different chemical than Frontline. (Frontline resistent fleas started showing up a few years ago, btw.)

My dogs have a bad reaction to frontline...and it did not work on them.
I found this at a feed mill and it knocks the ticks and fleas off in 24 hours, best is that online it is ten bucks for a 3 month supply, actually 9 months if I buy the large size and split it three times.
