Shiitake Growing Question

My logs are starting to produce mushrooms. The mushroom caps have cracks in them. What am I doing wrong?

You might not be doing anything wrong. I've often seen Shiitake mushrooms with cracked caps on sale in Chinese groceries.

Has to do with the various wetting, drying and cooling the logs experience. No problems with the cracking. Some of the highest value mushrooms on the market have cracks. They are valued for their intensified flavor.

Ask the people that sold them to you.
They should know.
