USDA and Cass Sunstein Want To Outlaw Gardening

Just read the other day that the "REGULATORY CZAR" and the USDA want to curtail most home raising of food. Something about people not "HAVING A RIGHT" to food and the raising thereof.

But, forfreedom, you know those crazy gardening people use chicken, rabbit poo in their gardens. (shhh - some even use humanure and ring their gardens with urine to keep the deer away)

How Crass says Cass...Can't possibly be healthy and Heaven to Betsy, they should share food that the USDA couldn't track - or tax

remind you of NAIS??

I think this is something I've heard about before... is it being brought up again?

If the government ever did try to stop folks from gardening, I'm sure it wouldn't interfere with any of us. Most bureaucrats can't recognize a whole lot of "stealth" produce. I'd lie and say that the mulberries were poisonous, those Jerusalem Artichokes are just scrubby bushes... We need to get some weedkiller on this lawn, those dandelions are just awful! Watch out for those nettles! They can bite...etc...

I'd put two quail in each cage and call them lovebirds!

I remember there was something about this a few years ago but it was killed.
It wasn't 'targeting' home gardeners but they didn't get an exemption from the rules or something like that.
I'd really love a link so as to read whatever bill or rule is being proposed.

There should be a Real Link to a Bill or a Draft of a Bill and is Not Bias as that one was.

Poor yuccaflatsranch posted, then probably went to bed.

There was a Senate bill 510 that was passed in November - maybe that's what he's referring to.

Hey, if you're really interested, let your fingers do the walking through google.

And if you think anything is dead with this admin - forget it. The subject will go away, other smoke screens will cover it - then poof - it's back on the radar.

Be ever vigilant!

Is this what you were looking for?

Quote:
The FDA goes further, stating that "there is no absolute right to consume or feed children any particular kind of food [because] comprehensive federal regulation of the food supply has been in effect at least since Congress enacted the Pure Food and Drugs Act of 1906. ... Thus, plaintiffs' claim to a fundamental privacy interest in obtaining 'foods of their own choice' for themselves and their families is without merit."
Link: no absolute right

Thank you for posting the link. Us guys over 60 need all the rest we can get. :-)

If you think that the Government doesn't think they can control every action you might want to take you are crazy and need the TIN FOIL HAT. That's what REGULATORY CZARS DO and Cass Sunstein is the REGULATORY CZAR. In charge of dreaming up and implementing Government Regulations. NOW WHY DO WE NEED A REGULATORY CZAR - to accomplish whats needed around the Congress and the Courts - who needs them anyway??? IF the Regulatory CZAR isn't there to make more and more government regulations - then WHY DO WE NEED HIM AT ALL?????

Different, but along the same lines, a school in Chicago has banned home made lunches. A vendetta of the Principal it seems.

There we go right there. That pretty much sums up the whole situation in America today I think.
Czars aren't elected, no bureaucrat is. This means they aren't accountable to the people they 'regulate' and can act with impunity. This practice has got to stop.

Also I wanna ask everyone, isn't a Czar a communist thing? It means supreme ruler or something along those lines if I remember right. Scary stuff to have here in the good ol' US of A

A Czar does not have to be Vetted. Wouldn't want to have to look into any of these guys backgrounds(sarc)-just like Obama's. Try finding out the Truth on him eather.

There is no bill or draft...this is a statement by some boneheads in the FDA in response to the filing of a lawsuit. There are no known plans to make gardening illegal....what this article suggests is that some in the FDA believe they have the authority to regulate your food consumption and that might be extrapolated to include gardening.

Their attitude is not good...but it is a far cry from "outlawing gardening".

I didn't pick apart the link but it seemed to me that it just says the obvious...
It *IS* illegal to cross state lines when selling raw products that are illegal.
I don't see anything about not being able to have a garden.

Do you have a credible source for this?

Hey come on folks - if you want to refute this - or don't want to believe it, do your own research & lets see your refrences.

Once or twice asking for credible resources is OK, but when I see it on so many posts, I'm beginning to think it's just another sneaky way to discount the poster rather than doing research & putting forth a well thought out rebuttle. .

I can post that the world is going to end tomorrow...
If I truly believe this and someone asks for more info then i should be able to provide it...
Nothing against the OP...I see way too many scare tactics going around everywhere...just because you " heard something" doesn't make it gospel.
What is wrong with asking someone who posted something to give credible evidence of that they posted? The Senate bill 510 did not pass as it stood...not many have the time nor inclination to read the entire text of a bill.

This is a link to the enacted version of the bill...read iff you will..but after skimming over ai see no mention of home veggie growing..just mass production safety measures
