brush hog question

We are researching tow behind brush hogs...the kind that attaches to a quad.
Does anyone have any experience with them?
What brand is good?
DR seem to be the most expensive are they worth the extra $?

Yer quad won't run over anthing a lawn mower would handle. A brushog is pulled behind a tractor capable of driving over 1 or 2 inch stuff A quad isn't heavy enough in build or weight.

I thought all the towed types were finishing mowers for lawns. Wrong?

Some are built to cut brush too, but most are finish mowers

For the cost, you could buy a small tractor and a REAL bush hog that will do a lot more

Last summer I watched my neighbor use one. It was about 4' wide and had a fairly large Honda engine. Have to say it worked pretty good, cutting rough grass and small sage brush without a complaint. It's not going to cut down anything it can't run over so small trees and large brush is beyond it's capabilities.

I use a 3pt mounted brush hog and frequently have to back over big sage bushes with the mower lifed and slowly lower it down. Can't do that with a pulled mower......

One of the neighbor guys has one out in the boonies. He uses his to mow the area that they use as a lawn...it's mostly tall weeds and such so no downed trees. Works well for that, but he has a tractor and regular brush hog for the woods areas. I don't know what type his is, but it's yellow! if that helps at all

I don't think a quad is stout enought to run over many 2" saplings without damage. For that I would just use a bow saw.

My brush hog will eat its way through 6 inches of trees if I can bend them down but it is not made for that. Small saplings 3 inches is the largest that can be really cut. I use one on a tractor 50 hp to do this. The whole thing cost about $6,000 but it can be used for many other things even riding the roads if I wanted. Oh by the way tractors are legal on highways but not 4 wheelers. The quad is good for riding off road but not for mowing. I have seen a DR mower that was pulled by one and it was fine for those areas that are too rough for a regular mower. The operator was always slowing and speeding up because it will not pull at a constant speed. There is a part of a DR that used to be pulled by a quad on a neighbor's place that tried to mow down some 1 to 2 inch saplings.
