questions about a spring

As I have mentioned my husband and I have recently purchased 7 acres. We thought there might be a spring on it but wasnt for sure until we went out to the property today. My husband walked down the revine that is down the side of the property He found the source of the spring. At least we think we did.Hefound a 3 foot by 2 foot cut stone that is 3-4 inches thick sitting cockeyed on the soil on a mound like on the hillside. LIke 6- 8 foot away from the stone theres a small ditch that is partially exposed thats made of sand. then 10 or so more feet on down is where you can see the water bubbling up from the sand and dirt.Do you guys think that the stone might be a cap for the spring or what else do you think it could be. Do you think its would be worth while to get some strong men or a tractor out there and flip that stone to see if it is a good source for the spring?

Sounds like the rock might be covering a spring . I'd definitely check it out .

If this is to be used for household water, you'll want to measure the flow per minute to get a good idea of its' flow rate. I also recommend watching that place for a full year before you develop it. It should be flowing at its peak right now. But what is more important is what is the flow rate in August, or your dryest part of the year.
