Need help for farm.

Do not know how to do this, but we need help to run our small farm. Someone out there has lost everything and needs a hand up. A place to live and help us. Ideas, know someone?

What does the small housing consist of? a separate dwelling? How much would it bring in rent? How much would you be willing to pay someone to work if you could pay? Divide the rent by the hr. wage, will the number of hrs you come up with be what you are looking for? What else would you be offering the helpers?
You could try WWoofers. They work for room and board and the opportunity to learn something.

We also posted our "ad" on attra for interns. We are very careful whol comes and works but we provide room and board and a small stipend @ the end of their stay. They are usually students interested in farming and see where their food comes from, etc. Google ATTRA INTERNSHIP and see what pops up!

Also, check with your extension office or if you have a local college or technical school with an ag dept.

In your 60's needing help means you could be vulnerable. If I were you, I would be extremely careful.

The local unemployment office might help.
The local schools might also help.
"Professionals" at the local homeless shelter.
Local food bank.

All the above places are in a position to know who might need help in your area and might, also, be able to provide some type of character references for them.

If your local high school has an ag teacher, ask him for a good student or someone the teacher knows of perhaps. Around here they have "WWOOFing" which is Willing Workers On Organic Farms and that's basically several hours worth of farm work in exchange for room and board. You could see if there are any WWOOFers available in your area.

Thank you all for your advice. Many people have now lost their home and job. If you know anyone who needs help and willing to work let us know. If they have lived on a small goat farm or cut fire wood, this would help. Bob & Linda

Hey Bob, I jsut sold my business and am looking for opertunitys (under the radar). I have been preping for several years, have raised bed/organic gardening experience, have worked with horses but know nothing about goats. I'd love a small place of my own, but don't have the $$ or time to do what is needed. We are a couple M/F in our late 50's, christian, easy going, hard working, and animal friendly. Where are you located? What are your goals? If interested in talking you can e-mail me at markcermele@msn.com. Thanks, Mark
