How much heating fuel did you use this winter?

I know winter is not over for everyone, but I think we are close enough here in NC to call it. We used around 3 cords of wood (mostly yellow pine) and 10 gallons of propane. The propane was only for when we were out of town to keep the pipes from freezing. This has been the best winter yet. This fall I swapped out the Fisher Baby bear for a VC Resolute. The larger firebox really helped out. The past two winters we used 30 (2008) and 70 (2009) gallons.

Two and one quarter tons of coal, between 1 and 1.5 full cords of hardwood (Oak and Ash this year) and pehaps 20 gallons of propane. It's 42 with rain right now, is it ever going to end?

Bought 1 1/2 ton of wood pellets for the stove and around 500 gallons of fuel oil. I'm heating just three rooms but have quite a bit of wind here, cleared agricultural fields on the west. I keep the house at 62 at night when the fuel oil furnace runs. Pellet stove keeps the rooms I live in about 68 during the day.

We filled up our 500 gallon propane tank in October, had to get gas again early in March. Some years we can squeak by on just the one tank, but this year was worse than our typical winter. Hate to think where we would be had we not fixed a window that wasn't sealing properly and added over a foot of blown insulation to the attic last year.

We used 3 cord of hard wood (oak, maple, cherry, and some birch) and 300 gallons of fuel oil. Our furnace heats the boiler which provides us with hot water as well as heat. We keep the furnace at 60 degrees and we run our wood stove for the main heat. Our house is a 2200 sq ft log home with a brick chimney up through the center of the house. Lots of mass to collect the heat and radiate it back when the stove goes out.

About 6 full cords of 90% Red Oak and 100 Gallons of propane. We use propane to heat hot water (tankless water heater) and to cook with. Bette does a lot of baking.

I have electric heat so it cost me about $200 this winter. Lots of Hydroelectric around here so powers really cheap. I have a woodstove for back up but didn't use it this year.

We used less winter 10-11 than we did 09-10. We did burn more wood, and turned the thermostat down to 63 in the day / 65 at night.
We didn't have as much 'wind' this past winter...

November 2010 through February 2011 bills = $472 total, $407 electricity (includes water heating and all other electrical usage; we cook and bake with propane), $65 kerosene. We kept the heat pump on 67º except when the grandbabies were here when we set it at 69º and some days 70º. We supplemented with a kerosene heater on the coldest days when the grandbabies were not in the house and circulated the warmth with the heat pump fan. Electricity is about $.11 per kilowatt hour and kerosene averaged $3.40 per gallon. For the same period in 2009-2010, we paid $785 . We spent $313 less over the four months this year, a 40% savings. We're learning! Can't wait to have wood heat and cooking.

Approximately $950 dollars for electricity (that is after taking out normal usage). About $219 dollars for propane. Another $40 bucks for kerosene. I was using a ventless wall heater initially to heat the house but it broke down. The kerosene was used to unthaw pipes. I went with electric because the furnace was broke. So far I've spent $1209 dollars on heat this winter and it isn't even over yet I venture that I've spent more money on heat than anyone else that has posted so far. I do have a wood stove but I didn't get to cutting wood until late in the season. I've been cutting it lately but because of all the freezing ice and rain none of it has been burning very well

400 gal (including the last delivery of 200 gal monday) of propane compared to 600 gal the previous 3 years. I think getting the new heat pump put in in the end of Dec is what saved us, the elec was only $20 more each month. Can't wait until next winter to see what the full winter savings are. Summer savings should be interesting with the fancy new system.

I felt like I needed to correct my post as the missus tells me we paid $280, she's calculated this down to the penny if you guys are really interested...lol
We pay about .05 per KWH here so it's very cheap, plus in the winter we bake a LOT, so while she counts that towards the heat bill I don't. I figure getting that winter layer of fat from so much pie counts more towards our medical bills...Ha!
