We would like to install an electric fence onto the chain link surrounding our chicken coop. The thing is, the fence starts on the far side of the coop, and ends on the near. The fence ends never meet. So I don't end up frying my entire coop and creating roasted chicken suppers for the neighborhood, can I run an electric wire that doesn't make a complete loop?

yes, and they make insulators for chain link as well....no loop is needed...

I've found the insulators. I just always thought electricity had to complete a loop. have I mentioned that I'm not mechanically, electrically, plumbingly, technically, inclined

Hot wire goes from the charger to the electric fence wire.
Ground wire goes from the charger to the ground. Literally.

The "loop" is made with the current when it leaves the wire, goes through your body, and into the ground.
