Are your taxes done yet?
With April 15th coming quickly (well tax day is actually April 18 due to the Federal Emanipation Holiday - what the ?!?!?!?) I was just wondering how many people have their taxes done yet.
This coming Sunday I meet with our tax person to get ours down. (And I'm actually a little bit earlier this year than other years.)
What about you?

I picked "Refund? What's a refund?" Ours are done, but I won't mail a check until April 1st. I always send the check on April 1st.

Mine are done just need to write the checks and mail them.
I picked "Refund? What is a refund?!?" A refund is just an interest free loan for the gov.

Had mine done the 3rd of feb. You don't put it off when you get money back! There needs to be a choice for "refund spent already"!

I get the fun of doing my business taxes, my SO's business taxes and then a hand full of his friends taxes (mostly easy). All done and out of the way though a couple are still waiting for returns. I'm seriously thinking of becoming a CPA for farmers and fishermen. On the side of course since I still have the farm and family. (yes my plate is piled high and overflowing)

Worse yet, many people who don't pay a penny in taxes get a refund. Go figure!

Done! Got the partial refund since they kept half of what we paid in. We also have them take the max they will so we dont have to pay more. Rather have smaller income through the year than to have to write a check.
I dont get the people and I know many that get back 'more' than they paid in.
---? where does that money come from...oh yeah, from the ones that dont get it all back..aka the ones that pay. I am fine with getting back what they paid in, but to get more than that? Doesnt make sense to me.

The reason some of us get refunds is we live with less cash income. For example I would have to make a salary nearly double before I'd have to pay any taxes. Three kids and a wife that works for our "family" account rather than for cash makes a huge difference. We live within the system and take advantage of it as designed. That is one of the great parts of modern homesteading, It's one of the few ways one can prosper and starve the BEAST.

Probably from the Chinese like all federal spending. Your "contribution" to the system in reality makes no difference as far as spending or government debt.

If you don't like paying taxes. Earn less and produce more for yourself. It's just that simple folks.

To be fair, you'd be hard pressed to find ANYONE who "doesn't pay a penny in taxes"...

I'm in stan's boat except I'm a single mom with two kids running a farm on a shoestring budget. I grow almost all our food so I don't have to make as much and can spend my income on utilities, medical, etc. Since I don't make as much income I get credited for being a working individual which anyone under something like 55k gets, eic which anyone under 30-something gets and a few other credits like mortgage taxes etc.
All that said I do pay taxes. Self-employment taxes, property taxes, etc. They just come off the top of the credits before I get my cut.
If I wanted to make enough money so I didn't receive any credits and only paid income I'd have to get a degree, a 60hr a week job and put my kids in daycare so I choose to live on less and be self-sustaining. It works for me and my family and if I get credited for it by Uncle Sam that's ok too. It's like a pat on the back for working so hard for what I believe in.

I not sure if you want to consider "The Homestead Credit" a refund or not. But that is the only thing I file to get that from the State.
I don;t file federal at all. Don't make enough, and if it wasn't for Homestead credit, I would not file WI's income tax either.
But a nice 750 dollar "back" or should I say say "From" the State is nice even though I no longer file any Tax Returns. As I don't pay taxes, being on SS I don't "make enough".

No need to get mad. Being a wealthy person has it's merits.
