Squirrel color

On Sat. we saw an odd looking squirrel run across the road. Its colors reminded me of a Siamese cat. The body was a light tan and it had black ears and a black tail. The colors were different from any I've ever seen. I saw it in northwest GA in Chattooga County. I wondered if anyone else had seen squirrels with colors like these.

Sounds like an albino -- they're pretty rare.

Here we have white squirrel sometimes, growing up we had white tailed squirrel they were the normal color you'd expect except they had bright white tails.

If you see it again get a picture!

I wish I could have taken a picture. It was several miles from my house and I didn't have a camera.

They have a town up here (western NC) has a yearly celebration about a white squirrel. I'll see if I can find a link.
Point being, I guess that's not that far from NW Georgia.

It's probably a Fox Squirrel.

They have lots of color/pattern variations

Albinos have NO color, and this one was partially black

There are sub-species of gray squirrels that are black. 18 were released at the Smithsonian and they have slowly made their way into Maryland and Virginia. My guys see them all of the time when they're working in Frederick, Maryland.

Fox squirrels are much larger than the gray squirrel or black squirrel. Was the squirrel you saw large?

The squirrel looked to be about a normal size. I didn't seen any in the pictures in Bearfootfarm's link that looked like what I saw, but there sure were some cute squirrels in those pictures. Energy Rebel, that festival sounds like a lot of fun. I'd love to go. Looks like Brevard is about 220 miles from where I saw the saw the squirrel.

You might catch Steve Martin out there. He's been playing his banjo with a Bluegrass band lately. Last year at their Bluegrass festival and I think he's supposed to show next year.

Saw completely black squirrels at the Iowa State School for the Deaf. Took photos as well. Have seen very red squirrels and albino ones at the Six Flags over Texas in Arlington, TX.

There are many fox squirrel color variations around here--black, blonde, and everything in between. I have seen squirrels colored exactly like you descibed (my husband and I JOKINGLY call them mulatto squirrels because they appear to be a mixture of the black and blonde color squirrels but I do not really believe this is the case). I have never seen an albino squirrel but just about everything else.

We have red squirrels here, little & nasty-tempered, and bigger grey squirrels, though some grey squirrels are charcoal to black.
