What book should DD buy?

DH is on the hunt for preparedness/survival titles...

BUT DD will be getting the homesteading book wish list for my birthday.

If you were going to receive one book for your birthday this year, what homesteading-type book would you want?

Another to consider is Introduction to Permaculture by Bill Mollison.

Carla Emery's Encyclopedia of Country Living. It has inspired me for 28 years.

The Self-Sufficient Life and How To Live It ~ John Seymour is dearest to my heart.

Woo hoo - I can't wait to print this out and give it to DD . Thanks to everyone for sharing their favorites. And keep 'em coming if you have more suggestions!

And the winner is??

A Beth Moore book. But many thanks for your suggestions - I have a new and improved SINGLE wish list of books with "homesteady" and "survival/emergency preparedness" sections.

I second Carla Emery's Encyclopedia of Country Living, and either The Self-Sufficient Life and How To Live It or The Complete Guide to Self-Sufficiency - both by John Seymour. Seymour is British, so a few of the things he talks about need "translation" or don't directly apply (e.g. he talks about European breeds of chickens rather than North American breeds) but it's still a truly excellent book full of great information, and I love his writing style!
