X10 cameras

Looking at doing a little monitoring at home. Have a fox that needs to go away and just curious about what else is out there. Anyone put out any of the X10 cameras? http://www.x10.com I like the idea of pulling it up on the internet and watching from work or even sitting in a stall watching from my smart phone.

Will the X10 cameras scare away foxes?

If you want them to go away, your either going to have to invest in some serious fences, guard dogs, or traps (havahart or leghold)... or a couple rounds of ammunition well placed.

No they won't scare away foxes. But they will allow me to get other things done rather than sitting in the barn for hours on end with a couple rounds of ammunition! Do have good fences. Have tried traps. Have dogs, but not with livestock 24/7.

A quick review of motion activated views would let me know the pattern and times. Could watch while hidden in the barn from my cell phone and know which barn door to attack from!

Lost 4 dozen chickens last summer and spent hours trying to catch the evil beast!

The X-10 cameras are a mixed bag. Most people don't realize that they need to be focused, and that the little clear plastic cap is removable indoors, making a better picture. Transmission of good pics on the wireless is limited to maybe 100' although 200' is possible.

My main issue with the X-10 products is that the motion sensors always are having false alarms. The whole idea of using infrared as the sensing range is dumb. Any leaf movement that exposes a patch of sunlight will trigger things. A sonar based system or one using a laser beam would be much more reliable.

The other big issue with the products is that they can be battery eaters.

Yeah, i have them,,,,for the price, they are ok.....i use the switching systems and alarms also.....

i too think that they are probably being given false signals from perhaps line lightning strikes on the powerlines....i have come home at night to have every light controlled by x10 turned on.

I just got mine this week, the picture is not great but I got it to watch my kidding stall that is in the garage and it comes in clear but the pic quality is not great, not to much details, I also got a repeater so I can put it in the barn when it worms up and put the repeater in my carage and then I "should be able to get the pic in my bedrom but I have not tried it yet. You can see whats going on but not fantastic but I on a budget and it serves my purpose.

A good predator call would probably get better results. Most make squeaky rabbits in distress type noises... and if a predator is within hearing range, they find the noise irresistible.

x10 - ah, yes! The people (to use the term loosely) who introduced pop-up and pop-under ads. I can get downright inflexible when I think I'm making a moral decision, and I will never again buy an x-10 product. Bring back the good old days, I say, when we could hang, draw and quarter them! Or some weak sisters would use tubs of boiling tar, and feathers - it's a good second-best.
