Usually your local garden centers or even hardware stores will sell grass seed in bags, and they are often called by or rated as "Sunny, high traffic" or "play yard" or something like that. Often they are a mix, which helps with sustainability, and they should be suited to your area.
I'd try it out- just remember no matter what kind of seed you plant, it's very important to keep kids/dogs/any traffic off of it until it's established, and keep it watered.
I had to re-seed a big swath across my yard, and due to needing to keep traffic off it for several weeks, I only did a section at a time, fenced it off, walked around it, then did the other half. Worked out great that way.
