Rotisseri oven question.

A few weeks ago we purchased a Rotisseri oven and have enjoyed it. But so far all we've done in it is whole chicken and pork loin roast. So I've been wondering has anyone stuck a whole fish in their rotisseri? If so, what kind of fish and what seasoning? Squirrel/Rabbit anyone?

Oh yes they work good for fish with the closed rack. Salmon, sturgeon, trout, steelhead, blue gill, perch. I used the rack for a lot of meat pieces instead of the whole animal, turkey, goose and duck breast. Ham, roast you name it. Lean meats like rabbit and squirrel need to be done at a low temp so they don't dry out. I like to put them in a very hot oven and turn it down, this seals in the juices. Any marinade, rub or mop works well. I miss it, I am off grid and don't have 110 power to run it now, son loves it though....James

Thanks jwal10, I guess what I need to do is experiment around and see what happens. I would like to put a whole bass inside rubbed with Lemon Pepper seasoning. I've thought about putting in a young squirrel wrapped in bacon. I have to wait till May 15th before I can do any squirrel hunting tho. But I still have time to collect a rabbit or two but not sure what seasonings to rub on it.

Your on the right track Old Country Boy, we use ours to do roasts, poultry and if you havent tried it and you have the basket...do shrimp. It really concentrates the flavor and they come out very tasty (just peel them first).

Squirrel wrapped in bacon sounds like a good plan..makes me hungry just thinking of it.

Oh, hey Salmonslayer! I just got to thinking, Dove wrapped in bacon and grilled in a outdoor gas grill is great. I bet it would taste great too if done in a rotisseri oven also.

I like to take dove breasts and fry them in bacon fat so I dont see why that wouldnt work but I've never tried it.

I've been thinking about getting a rotisseri oven. If you don't mind, what brand did you get and what are the pros, cons?

I have a showtime rotisserie and love it for just about everything that doesn't need low or moist heat. I have done country ribs in the basket and they came out wonderful. Probably done at least a hundred chickens in it! Chicken pieces work fine in the basket, also. Have had it for at least 10 years and it still works fine.

Well ours is G.E. from walmart and was the only brand they was carrying. Didn't really cost that much, so don't know just how long it will last. But it has got me hooked on Rotiseri style foods. If it goes bad on us, I will look for something better.

Just wonder if anyone makes a Rotiseri oven big enough to do a turkey or pork shoulder in.
