Homesteadingtoday get-together?
Mods feel free to move this if i have it in the wrong area,
Some of the other forums im on have regular get together where members meet up and talk in person. is there anything like that on here? done by region or area? maybe a cook out or something?

They use to have them all the time. The nearest one to me was held at Harrison, Arkansas (Buffalo River). There was several others held across other states too on a annual basis. But in the last few years people on this board just don't seem to be as close as when we all started back in the lusenet days. We use to seem like a little family on this board. You could cut up and joke around on here, but now days no one seems to have much of a sense of humor.

Nah, if someone organizes it, there will be people that come, but it's hard to get it set up where everyone can come.
Hopefully this year we will be doing one around here.

I've met a local HTer, but apparently, there really aren't many in my area. By "my area", I should mention we are not real fond or road trips...Harrisburg and Baltimore require an overnight stay...kids and all.
Personally I have an "open door" policy...if your in the area, drop a line and let us know when your around...we can either meet somewhere, or if I "know" you well enough, there will be a pot of coffee and corn bread waiting when you show up at the door step.
We did our travel when we were younger, and until the kids are older, not doing many long runs.

I would love it if there were even a small meetup in my area! I know there are a few of us nearby (just can't remember who at the moment).

We have an annual homesteading weekend. It isn't necessarily an HT get-together, but plenty of HT folks in a 200 mile radius seem to find their way to our place every June.

More toward Spring there will be people putting together a day together, picnic, etc. Happens every year.
As to no one here having a sense of humor anymore...it's not "here on HT", it's everywhere. Not restricted to HT'rs. People, in general, are nervous about the future, stagnant economy, and...IT'S WINTER. Plenty of people here have the winter blahs, cabin fever..whatever you want to call it.
The other problem, of course, is that when someone makes a funny comment in a thread, there will usually be SOMEONE who doesn't think it's funny, or misunderstands it, or is just too <insert your own word here> to get the joke..and that person goes ballistic.

I may be in the minority; but I hesitate to meet and greet the people (no matter how nice/kind/helpful) I've met via the internet. For that matter, I really don't like my location known, although I've been more lenient in these forums in that respect.
Maybe it is simply a sign of the times; but I see so many people struggling to make ends meet, even survive, that they take what they can get from even those who have little. The cruelty midst the human race is difficult to cope with as it breeds paranoia; and I'ld rather be paranoid than harmed in some way.
Traveling to a designated place to meet others from these forums is something I would enjoy. Our animals tie us down, however, so an "overnight" venture would probably not work.
Love your pictures Big.

Rock, i've been on here for 4 yrs now. I don't post much, but I read it everyday.
If you have a gathering I would attend. Wouldn't even mind traveling down that long bumpy dusty/muddy road to your place. I really enjoy reading what you write.
I know my husband would love to fish.....and hunt with you

Just give me a day's notice (and be aware, our house is a "re-construction zone on 3/4 acre"). If you ever are in the neighborhood, the door is well open to you.
We're easy going, just ask stan. Met him recently at an auction...
Matt
PS, have corn on the cob from last fall that really needs to be used up with a few steaks on the gril, snow or not)...hence, the day's notice... ;-)
