41 years of M.E.N. for $40

Mother Earth News is having a special for one week - The complete archives for 1970-2010 on DVD for $40.

I know it has gotten rather yuppy of late but the older stuff is still a very good reference.

Here's a direct link to the DVD archive:

http://www.motherearthnews.com/shopp...temnumber=4776

It shows $59.95 as the price. You have to add it to your cart and then start the checkout process. About three pages in, before you confirm your purchase, there's a place to enter a promo code - MMEPAAA1. That will reduce the price to $40.00. There is also a $6.95 shipping charge added, so the total is $46.95.

Just thought that might help anyone who's interested, since it took me a little bit to track it down and figure it out, lol. Thanks Wags!

I treated myself to this for Christmas this year . Love it . I have quite a few MEN magazines but not the whole shebang . Now I do and it takes up a lot less space .

Have also about 40 years of old MENS magazines and need to come to the fact that they cleaned out of the upstairs. But, they seem,in a way, like old friends when you have them in hand to read. Haven't looked at any on using thesem though. Should try them and then clean house.

I have probably the first 30, and haven't looked at any in 10 years or more. Time sure flies. I'd been considering trying to sell them. I wonder if there is a market? Sue

The old MEN were the finest homesteading magazines that I have ever seen! They said how to do EVERYTHING!

I no longer read them, as their information has gotten shallow and vague and they no long have that great old column "Them's that's doin", or whatever they called it!

Shuttleworth made no bones about stealing a lot of ideas from the older magazines such as Popular Mechanics and many of the farm magazines from about 1900 to 1950. Sadly, that was probably the best stuff, most of the newer stuff was hippie daydreams - remember the Minto Wheel? He did have a few decent interviews, a la Playboy style, right down to calling it "Plowboy". The one he had with the author of "Dune" was memorable.

I've got the DVDs, and find that I rarely access them, even though I do peruse my old issues from the 1970s from time to time. A lot of the personals are like time capsules from the period, and show just how off-the-wall and innocent some of the thought was back then.

Brand's "Whole Earth" was also cool, perhaps better at really exploring alternatives. That is available for free on the web.

Do the old issues have a market? YES they do. If you have complete sets, and live in a rural area, put them on Craig's List. Start high (at least high enough to more than pay for your DVD) and see what happens. You will undoubtedly get a few "offers". Write down Names/Phone numbers. If nobody pays your original asking price, start calling back those who made offers. If that doesn't pan out, just relist them at the same price, and see what the next week brings. Not everybody reads CL every week, so relisting a few weeks will probably find interested buyers.

The only thing negative with selling your hard-copies is that during a period of no electricity, you will not have access to your DVD...at a time you may need some some good reading material.

ETA: Once you sell them, make sure to go back to CL and DELETE your post, otherwise your phone may be ringing dozens of times per day.

Thanks for the heads up!

I had seen this earlier, and was ready to purchase them before at the higher
price, but forgot about it.

Was happy to pull the trigger for them at the reduced price as well.

Thanks-
