Anybody else apply for long time resident on taxes last year

We still have not gotten our $6,500 on our taxes from last year where we built a house. I have been fighting with them for a while. I sent them proof that we paid taxes all those years at our last house and that we built this one. All they need to do is write my check and its been 19 weeks since they received all my proof that it took them six months to ask for. At first we just kept getting letters saying they needed more time. Got those for 6 mos and then one day got a certified letter asking us to send them certain documents and we did. Still no check. Just wondering if anyone else was having the same problem.

They gave people that bought houses for the first time $8,000 for first time home buyers. They also gave a credit of $6,500 for a long time resident. Which is described as this.... a long-timed resident is an individual or married couple who has owned and used the same home as that individual's main home for any 5-consecutive year period during the 8 yr period ending on the purchase date of the new main home. You could buy or build a new home. We built one before the deadline. They are just not doing anything on it. I keep being told it has been assigned. They are suppose to let someone know something before 16 weeks after they receive documents that they requested and they still havent worked on ours. At 20 weeks i will be getting a tax payer advocate to go in and say why is this taking so long and getting some answers. One more week it will be 20 weeks.

Times are tough. I am sure that you will be paid someday. The government needs lots of money to operate, so you would not mind waiting a little longer, would you?

Now if you want some action call your congressman, He has a staff of people who just love to work this sort of thing out.

Thats funny. I should have never took out a note against that money. I was teasing a friend of mine last year telling them Obama bought my furniture. I keep extending the note but one day the bank is going to say enough, start paying. ugh.

Never assume you will get something free from the government.

I've tried to resist....I can't resist any longer. No I do not blame you for accepting whatever monies are available. Definately not aimed at you, but...

This is NOT Obama's money.....It's mine!!!!! This sounds like some of the 'redistributing wealth' thing. I don't want my so called wealth redistributed!

Whew, I feel much better now.

A word of caution.
I'm sure you and your lawyer checked this out already, but I thought about taking that tax credit when offered because they had expanded it to include a few years prior to the year it was passed - 2008 or 9(?).
BUT, when I read the fine print, those additional years that it was extended for wasn't a true tax credit, but an interest free loan that was to be repaid over the next ten years.
Nice, but no thanks.
I think that there will be some surprised tax payers when they file for a refund and find that the IRS has taken out their cut......

Yea, I understand your point of view too. But mine is this.... if u r going to offer the tax break, then pay when someone qualifies. No one is going to say Oh I dont want it if someone says they will give you $6,500. Hell yea I will take it. My friend is a republican and I was teasing her by saying Obama bought my furniture. I guess thats what i get HUH? lol

They then sent me several pages of paperwork for my home builder to fill out. Did that, sent it back and waited. Then they claimed that I had missed the deadline, even though my paperwork shows it was built 6 months BEFORE the deadline. At that point, I turned it over to my lawyer and 2 weeks later received a check and apology for the wait. All I could think of is, and these are the people that want to control our healthcare?
Yea, I got a denial letter at first too saying i did not qualify for first time home buyers credit. I sent them a letter (appeal letter) saying I didnt submit for that so they sent me a letter saying they were working on it and they needed more time. they did that for 6 mos and then sent me a certiified letter asking for documents. I sent them and then they tried to claim they never got them. I told them they were lying who the hell else was going to get mail addressed to the IRS. They told me to resend the paperwork. My tax guy said no that if i did they would say they had duplicates and would stall. So i waited and kept calling until finally it showed they scanned the items in in Nov. So i checked to make sure they had all documents that they had requested and they said yes. They told me they had 16 weeks to get my claim done. At the end of 16 weeks I was fuming. They are now saying I have to give them an additional 4 weeks before getting a tax advocate. We will see. I am tired of it. And they wonder why everyone hates them.

Thats not right. The first one... First time homebuyers had to be paid back. Last years did not. The long time resident did not have to be paid back either. There are rules... Like i have to stay in my house for two or three years (cant remember) can not operate any business out of my home for that time either. I will check on what u said but i am sure my tax man would know he is a CPA and should know these things. thanks for the info though.

I'm betting her response was pretty much the same as mine

Oh what I wouldn't do for a viable 3rd party! Sorry for the general chat moment there.

Though I cannot endorse the program you describe....I sure as heck would rather that you have that money than the government. Remember the squeeky wheel gets the grease. Go get em!

It was my understanding that it was a tax credit... you had to actually owe some taxes, to get anything back. ...of course, I've been wrong several times already today!

good luck
