we have a cell phone problem

DH decided to try the new walmart straight talk phone, because it has no contract, and is free, unlimited everything for 45$ a month. so far, it is working fine, but after he got his number transferred, and its all said and done, we discovered something the company failed to mention, and we failed to think of.

they cannot transfer his list of stored phone numbers from his old phone to his new phone. Yikes!
His cell phone is his business phone and he has well over 300 numbers stored in there. If we can't find a way to transfer the list, I am going to end up having to do it one at a time.
Surely there is a cord or something where the phones can be hooked up to the computer for data transfer? similar to how an Ipod works? Somebody save me!

have you asked them if there's any way possible.? When we switched rom plain old phones to iPhones they were able to do it. It was a kind of complicated process (and took a while) but they were able to do it. Yes, it was a special cord, but I think they also had to have some special software to do it. We weren't switching companies though.. which might be your problem.

Your best bet is to take it to a cell phone retailer like Verizon. and see if they will hook it up to there computer.. yes you can buy the data cable but you dont have the software. on some phones you can do it through the blue-tooth, and some you can do it with the sim cards. if you have a straight talk that has a sim card.. it either runs on ATT or Verizon.. if its ATT there will be a GSM at the lower left corner of the box it came in. and their customer serivce is flat out worthless. i had them and switched to T mobile.

If you do take your phone somewhere other than where you bought it expect to be charged a fee of $10-20 to switch those numbers. Walmart may be cheap, but they don't provide much, if any, service.

I don't know what kind of phone your hubby had but if it is a smartphone, he should be able to link it to a computer and transfer (synch) the info to Microsoft Outlook. It makes a great backup of the information, too. For that reason alone, I will never use anything except a smartphone for business. It can also be used to keep track of a calendar, etc...

its just a cheaper model. the LG231, I think. It's funny, because..well the company he just left is US Cellular. His USC phone is also an LG231. They are the exact same phone. He did call the USC store to see if he could pay them to do the switch and the guy told him he tried with a trac phone once and he wrecked the phone. He said there are wires out there to do it, but he wouldn't recommend it. He said the trac phones have weird software that doesn't jive with everyone else's. (straight talk is is sub-company of trac-phone wireless)

isn't the smart phone the one with the open front screen and buttons? He wouldn't have one of those. He would just wreck it. He just wants a PHONE, not a little computer. Something that stores numbers and makes and receives calls only.

If the both phones have sim cards you might be able to transfer them that way.

Can you not save them to the memory card and just put the card in the new phone?

Check out bitpm http://www.bitpim.org/ Its a software package that works with many phones and allows you to manage your phone. You might need to take the old phone and download all the numbers and then uplaod them to the new phone. At a minimum you get a backup of your numbers.
