Questions about Oats

Hello,
Can someone explain to me the differences in oats please? I'm looking for oats to make oatmeal and my local Co-OP has rolled oats and oat groats. Which one is the best for oatmeal? I know one has the shell still on it so I don't think that would be the best. I want to make sure before I get some
Thanks,
Joe

Rolled oats are oat groats that have been steamed, rolled and flaked to cook quickly for human consumption. Oat groats are whole oats with the outer hull removed. Feed oats are just rolled, no steam and broken into pieces. Usually with hull still on....James

Rolled oats and oat groats are both ready to use. No hull on either.

Rolled oats are what are usually used to make cooked oatmeal, or oatmeal cookies, or granola. The groats can be used for oatmeal, too, but take longer to cook.

I use the grouts when I want to cook the oatmeal in the crockpot. They hold up to longer cooking times.
