hog jowl bacon

Is it any good? They have some at a really reasonable price at the local butcher shop. I have heard the "cheek" is the best part of the hog, but not having raised my own, wondered if it was worth trying

Love it, always have it on New Years for good luck on being "prosperous" through out the year. Get it sliced. if possible. I like it, and my family does. We also have the blackeyed peas on New Years. Not sure it works, but still getting by.!

I do love some jowl! It's got a different texture from bacon, but the taste is close to the same.

I'll take jowl bacon over regular bacon any day.

It's good. I like to dredge it in seasoned flour then fry in bacon grease like you do fatback. Serve with Mashed potatoes/gravy and greens. It's good.

I agree, I think jowl is the best bacon!

Oh, yeah! It brings back some memories. When I first got married, back in 1960, we could get slced Jowl bacon, for 10 cents a pound. We ate it often.
It's kinda hard to find sometimes out here, though.
I use to work with a friend & her Hubby, who went down to "Lamberts Restaurant, Home of the Hand Thown Roll", on the Missouri Line. One of their Dinners was a Pound of Fried Jowl Bacon.
They loved it at Lamberts.

My family loves it, better than regular bacon. It is also much cheaper out here in the northwest than regular sliced bacon.

Love me some hog jowl!!! I buy it when on sale during New Years and keep in the freezer. Great for seasoning beans, greens, etc. Or just fried!! Yummy

To me, it's the best. When we had pig roasts, that was the first cut to go (right into my cooler for "safe" keeping). The problem I have with jowl bacon, is it is in limited supply.

[COLOR="Navy"]On board here with the rest of the gang: it's very tasty.

Found a chunk on the mark down isle recently and tried it for the first time. Cooked nice and crisp, the flavor was good and the rind is good in soup. How can you go wrong?
