What's your favorite thing about homesteading??
Out of all the things involved in homesteading what is your favorite thing to do?? Or what's your favorite thing about homesteading?

The look on people's faces when I tell them what I do everyday. Getting to work with my best friend doing things I enjoy.

That I have the freedom to make the job fit the day. If the weather isn't pleasant, I have lots of indoor jobs. On nice days, I do outside things. I can't stand being cooped up inside on a beautiful day.

Being my own boss. My conscience tells me what to do. I love my dairy goats. Milking is my favorite chore.

Goats, goat milk, goat yogurt, goat cheese, and going to the goat pen to watch and interact with goats! Watching the grandchildren interact with goats.
Yup, it's goats.

Feeling secure in the fact that I can handle nearly anything that comes up.
Garden producing more than we can eat fresh? Can it, freeze it, dehydrate it, share it. Power outage? Light the Aladdin lantern, then candles. Fire up the woodstove if it's cool.
Food illness being reported from contaminated food? Sit back and enjoy the fruits of that canning/freezing/dehydrating labor.
It's that feeling that we can be okay that I like best.

The challenge and endless variety! There is always something that needs to be done or a project to figure out the details of.

serving a meal that we grew from start to plate. I also really like raising turkeys, they are more fun then even chickens.

Freedom, gardening, canning, living in the forest, generating our own power. I love it all!

I like to walk out to the barn and pens at night to check the animals, and give myself a chance to appreciate the quiet, the stars (no lights!), and my life in general.

I like evening chores the best; the peaceful contented presence (and smell) of cows and horses, the chickens going to roost and softly grumbling at each other while everyone gets to their spot, a beautiful sunset, and the dogs bringing their toys for one more throw, please! before we head into the house.

Knowing that I don't have to enable the security settings on my WiFi, since no one lives close enough to detect it!

I like the quiet satisfaction from knowing I am responsible for what I see, do and accomplish.
