negative air pressue in home and fireplace....

Had an issue this morning I've never encountered. I opened up the doors
to the fireplace and I felt cold air coming in. Dumb me tried to light it only
to have it rush back at me...dumb....

I was dumbfounded. I decided to open up a couple of windows and could
feel air rushing in there as well. After a few minutes, the cold quit coming
down the fireplace and it lit successfully.

I kind of thought our home was airtight, but surprised it would have this
much effect.

Bathroom vents, vent a hood and any appliance that draws inside air and vents it outside will cause a negative pressure.

A rapid fall in air pressure (as in a front moving in) can do that as well.
If there is a low moving in we sometimes have draw problems on our stove.

true, but nothing was running in the house and

I am all electric. However, I did get word this morning that a high pressure
Front was passing over our area. Just plain odd. I always assumed that pressure
would equalize instantly.

Mine does that sometimes when we an easterly wind gust. Very rare though. Do you have a attic fan that may be on?
