New Cook Stove

I am planning on getting a new cook stove & wanted to know which one's folks here recommend.

I am thinking of Maytag since they are American made & so far they have the best warranty I've seen so far, 10 years on the burners for one.

It has to be gas since we have propane & I don't like electric stoves & also I want a double oven.

I know every brand makes from very inespensive models to the top of the line. I want a stove that I can buy & it will last 20 years or more. I hope they still make them of that kind of quality since anymore most things are throw away items in anything made these days.

If it matters to you--consider whether the range can be used when the electricity is off. Many have electronic ignitors or controls and can't be used if power is off.

The gas stove we have now has the electronic ignitors & when we have power outages I can still light it with a match. Maybe it depends on the brand or model with the electronic ignitors?

I think the previous poster was referring to the oven being used without any electricty.

If its important to you, double check that its American made. Whirlpool bought out Maytag some years back and are in process of moving all Whirlpool production, except some of very high end high profit stuff, to Mexico I think.

I grew up not far from Maytag factory in Newton, Iowa. Now I dont live that far from one of the biggest Whirlpool plants in Ft Smith, AR that is in process of severely cutting production and moving to Mexico. They've already closed the big Evansville, Indiana plant.

Gotta wonder if its cheaper to pay off the drug cartels in Mexico than to have just stayed in USA and maybe automated more to stay competitive?? American corporate greed and short term thinking.... Who do they think can now afford to buy their products since their former workers will now have to work much lower paying jobs... Its fine for those companies who first move production across borders or overseas. But if most or all USA manufacturers do it, who in USA can afford their products other than the small wealthy class. Short term thinking!

I try to buy American made things when at all possible. I've checked all the major appliance makers & I thought Maytag was the only one still considered American made.

General Electric I know has their main headquarters in CT, but also are in I think 300 other countries worldwide.
If there is another American made appliance company I would like to find out who they are, anyone know of any more?

I do have another question for those of you that have the double ovens, what is the difference in the True Convection over the Fan Convection other than price?

FYI About 5 years ago I was in the market to replace my then 30 year old stove that still worked. I was willing to spend a few bucks as they last so long. The lady selling the stove told me to forget about the new stoves holding up like the old ones and she advised me NOT to spend a lot. She was right.

Well thats the same stove I wanted Untill I went and looked at one.
I wanted the double oven and the smaller one on top and then I went to the store and opened and looked and pretended to put a roast or Turkey in it and it seemed to dangerous to me to have to bend over the oven door laying on the floor in front of you with a heavy pan.Uhh no thanks.
It changed my mind.I suggest you take a look at one in real life.
I went with a Frigidaire Gallery 5 burner and convection oven.So far I really like it.

I like Maytag- I have had three of their ranges in different houses. I have also had Jenn-Aire - also owned by Maytag. I liked it too. I don't see all that much difference in ranges.

You might check Premiere brand if you are looking for a gas stove you can light with a match - even the oven. That's what we bought. I have no idea where they are made.

Bought Maytag for the kitchen four years ago, had a two year warranty, When the oven was three months out of warranty the electronic control unit went out. Called Maytag to order the part, They sent out the part and contracted a repairman at no cost to me, then they threw in another year of warranty coverage for my trouble. Maytag is Okay by me.

I have a Maytag Gemini with 5 burners on top and two ovens. You can use the stove top in a power outage but the ovens won't come on until you have power. I like mine and rarely use the bottom oven unless I want to cook a large object like a large roast or turkey but the shelf roles out for that. I like mine because I have a dog that will look on the top and turn on the burner some times and the controls are on top.

Don't have a brand to suggest but I would second what someone else said = be sure it can be used when power is out. We have an old propane cook stove with two ovens and it is a work horse. Love it when power is out we can still heat and cook.

Not sure where frigidaire is made but will check them out. I normally roast my turkey's & ham in a counter top roaster so the big oven on the bottom wouldn't bother me too much, There's only 2 of us & I mainly would use the bigger oven at Christmas time I think.

I had an old Frigidaire Refrigerator a long time ago, had it fixed once when it was about 30 years old the repairman told me & he said it would probly run another 30 years. At the time that was made Chevrolet made frigidaire products, now I have no idea.

I was mainly going for Maytag because they have a good reputation for warranty work & workmanship & also made in the US which I think is Great.
I will check out the Jen-Aire though too. I had thought about them but I remember when they first came out I thought they were very pricey so kinda put them in the back of my mind this time.

I will definately do my homework & alot of shopping around & ask alot of questions.

My Maytag does not have the double oven. It is propane and has 5 burners including both a power burner (Great for canning) and a simmer burner. I've had to replace the glo-bar for the oven once in 5 years (Easy to do yourself) but other than that it's great! My oven is convection although I don't really use convection that much. My priorities were a power burner, which was a must have, and a simmer burner. Maytag had both where other brands did not. A little pricey, but excellent quality by todays standards. BTW, I cook seven days a week and can like crazy so I have truly tested this stove.

JennAires that I am familiar with use down draft for venting so you have to have your kitchen designed to use it. They are pricey. I can on my stove all summer long. One bad thing is that the two large burners are on the same side of the stove so I can't use both at one time with the canner going. The largest burner is in the back and I can't fit the canner back their. You might want to take your canner with you when you pick out your stove just to be sure it will fit where you need it to fit. Happy shopping!
