4 day old Pig

Question: I have a 4 day old pig. I think she may aspirated. Could someone tell me what I need to do. All the vets are closed and our local Southern States is closed.

You could try sucking it out, or maybe gently swinging it by it's hind legs.

If you've got one of those rubber bulb baby syringes, made for cleaning out baby noses, you might be able to suck it out. If you don't, I'd try swinging it.

When I swing an animal I support the whole body with one hand (or arm) and support the head and neck with the other (one hand under head, one hand on top of the head). Hold the animal up at shoulder height and then swing it down as fast and hard as you can, until its head is pointed at the ground.

Give it 5-6 hard swings.

Also, if there isn't too much fluid in the lungs, it helps to keep the animal in a warm dry place. That'll help dry the lungs out. If the fluid doesn't swing out, try putting that baby on a heat mat or heating pad. Even a cardboard box by the woodstove would help.
