question about having a blog
I want to turn my website into a blog, or start over and make a new one. But I really don't know where to start. I have looked at a couple free blog sites. One was WAY to complicated, one seemed very easy. I can't write html. I really need a drop and drag type program.
Problem is I am blog ignernt.
I would like to have regular pages, so I can post photos, articles, recipes, etc.. but also want to be able to post daily or weekly happenings with new pics. Most seem to have a string of links down the right side of the screen, and that works for me.
Also, I would like to keep having my same website name, as to change it would devastate our business. we are advertised in alot of places that cant be changed.
Can I do this, and how? The one blog site I looked at that looked easy didn't have anything I could find that talked about web addresses.
So which one should I use and why? Currently my website is made thru yahoo business.

I use blogspot for both of mine and have them set up to match the respective websites they complement. The blogs both have the name of the business as their name and the url is "businessname.blogspot.com"
Here are links to one set so you can see what I mean.

Blogspot is a really easy one, and wordpress is also great. I started with blogspot and now use wordpress that I installed on my own domain.

I don't have a website right now but when i was thinking about making one a few weeks ago i stumbled upon Yola.com it lets you have a regular website with a blog feature built right in and it is mosty drag and drop if i remember right.
Its probably what i'll use to make my website/blog this year.

wordpress I think was the one I saw that seemed complicated.
so you can't have one that is just the website name?
mistletoad, so you have those as separate entities? It doesn't seem you can reach one from the other. why do you do it that way?

On that particular set I wanted the blog (and facebook page and twitter account) to be billboards for the website and so each of those have links to the website. I do not want to lose website visitors to the blog etc. so there are no links going that way. Also the blog is very new, if I find I keep this one up (I tend not to be a good blogger) I may reconsider how I use it.
Our farm website does link to the blog and facebook and I treat those as an extension of the website to get timely info out to our existing customers. I do not use that blog to attract new customers.
I used to have greymatter installed on my domain but I decided to take advantage of the free bandwidth and ready made community that you get with blogspot.

Forgot to add - you could replace your whole website with a blog and use the domain name you have now - blogspot gives you that option.

Blogger is a free service, and I believe there is a way to have your domain name point to your blog.
ETA: Just realized blogger is blogspot. Oh well. But I did find the page with the info for the custom domain name, it is here Good luck with it. I visited you website, it is very nice. Lots of good information.

I called yahoo and they do have blog options for people (like me ) who pay for their service. they use wordpress, so I downloaded it, just to mess around. I cant figure out how to do anything except change the pre-set words. Cant figure out how to change their background photos, or insert my own, or even change the font. What am I missing? I'm not a modern day computer whiz like most people 10 years younger than me, but I'm not stupid.
replacing the website with a blog is kind of what I want to do. Right now I do a quarterly newsletter. Instead, I would like to have something that makes people want to keep returning to my site.

Blogger (also known as blogspot), which is run by Google, is very easy to work with, FREE, and you can use your own domain name with it.
Go here: https://www.google.com/accounts/NewA...CE_ONLY&naui=8
If you have any questions, PM me. I've set up quite a few friends in these and even just finished an online Urdu lesson based on a tutorial about starting a blog on blogger. So if I can explain it in Urdu, just think how much easier explaining it in English would be :baby04:!

Ok, Ive been making one with blogger. Maybe I am just overly picky. It kind of sucks too. I will try to make it work, but I can't figure out how to make it do some things, like make links in text. and at the bottom, it says Subscribe to: Posts (Atom), and its a link to a page that says 'no articles' and has a bunch of links down the side. I dont even know what this is, and what to do with it.
Also, there is a pages gadget that says home as a link, but how do you make pages? I would assume it means like a normal web page, but I can't figure out how to make that happen.

Hi,
I use the Google Blogger service for my blog -- I found it very easy to start up and use. It is free, and for a small one time fee they will give you your own domain name.
I have both the blog and a much larger website -- I use the blog mostly to announce new things on the website. I'd think about whether you really want to give up the website in favor of the blog as websites are much more flexible.
My blog and website:

So it might be better to keep the website and just link both the site and the blog together. how do I make links within the text? Does it give you an automatic option when you make a text box?

With Blogger, you just type the material in like you would in a word processor. The items you want to turn into links, you just select the text, then click on "Link", the link box will pop up and you just paste the link in that you want. They also have an easy way to upload pictures and videos.
Probably the best way to have a look at it is just create a junk blog to experiment with. Its free and fast to set up, and you could play around with it and see how it works. Once you have a feel for what you want to do, delete the junk blog and create the one you want.
You could do the same thing with Wordpress and just see which one you like the best.
