kodak slide converter

I have 400 slides that my parents took of us kids as we grew up, and am looking to convert them to digital format, and burn all my siblings a copy. Has anyone had any experience in doing this, and what machine did you use? Have seen a lot of them on internet, but not certain which ones actually work. Thanks!

I would recommend paying a service to do the conversion for you.
They will typically have higher quality equipment.
There are many companies on the internet offering this service.

Scanner

I bought a Hewlett Packard model 4890 scanner which has slide holders and copied mine with it. It also has negative holders and make positives from them with ease. The model is no longer made though.

I have another VuPoint product which works well so would consider one of these if in the market for one. http://www.vupointsolutions.com/film...converters.asp

DH has used an Epson 3170 scanner that is no longer made. He says the current model is Epson 4490. Epson store has it listed at $129. Amazon has it for $119 with free shipping. He quit using the 3170 because Epson stopped updating the software for his Mac, but the local Target photo booth that does conversions still uses a 3170.
Go to Amazon.com & look up reviews of scanners. (DH is really into this stuff & reading reviews of Epson 4490 to me as I type.)

There are scanners (as others have said) that will scan slides and negatives. They work fairly well these days and aren't horribly expensive IF you need a scanner in your house.

There is another option that you can use...might have to make it. If you have a digital camera that will do closeup(macro) you can create a lightbox to put the slide in, and then photograph the slide with light coming from the back. If you calibrate well, it works spectacularly.

However...if you go to a camera store, or to a Walmart, and ask about slide conversion, you'll probably get the best image, for the least price. And it will be on a CD or DVD, ready for showing.

I hope your's worked better than mine.
Mine is junk as far as I'm concerned.

Should put it on CL and see if I can back part of my $100.00 I paid for it.

I bought a Epson V-500, much better.

My Costco converts old VHS, slides, etc... onto CDs. 3 hours of VHS, 8 mm, etc... for $17.99 and you rec'vd the CD and a back up CD. They also did slides but don't remember the cost. This may be a viable solution rather than investing in the equipment yourself. Good luck on your endeavors!

I bought the Magic Wand hand held scanner for $89 from Sam's Club. Have now scanned many photos and documents and it has worked flawlessly.

Kohls also carries a small scanner that does negatives and slides. I paid about $89 for it and it works surprisingly well. Our slightly older laptop wouldn't support it and I had to load the software on the new laptop. I forgot the brand name, but I remember that I got it from Kohls.
