rip off blue rhino tanks and walmart

I had some tanks exchanged at walmart and they give you the blue rhino tanks. They are not filled. They totally ripped me off !!!. Not to mention they charge 18$ Its usually 9$ at this local place. I called walmart to complain. they said "you have to complain to blue rhino". What! I said but my receipt for 80$ reads, walmart. They didnt think we are weighting the tanks. Trust me, I weigh my tanks as I am paying per pound. they are not even close to 20lbs.
I was wondering why I could lift them so easily, I thought maybe their tanks are lighter, no way. Living in the camper I am buying 20lb tanks, the temps have been steady no change, the tanks have been lasting 7 days, this tank lasted 2 days, not even...Big difference. Now I go onine and sure enough tons of forums stating blue rhino rips you off with half filled tanks! Plus they are sooo over priced. they also do not tell you that they fill only to 15 lbs, which I didnt even get that much! what! They do not list what you are paying for on the signs, they know they are tricking you. they dont want you to know they are short changing you. walmart and rhino are a big rip off!

I want my money and old tanks back!

That's good advice

Also, buy your own tanks and have them filled yourself and you won't have that problem again

Read the lables, it states right on them they will not be filled full.
We discussed this a couple months back.

Solution - don't buy Blue Rhino tanks.

good idea

Good idea, I just sent them an email. I am really mad because they purposely tell you its a 20lb tank fill at walmart.

The tanks say 15lbs, you get to see that after your ripped off. I feel walmart should be responsible for lying. I would not have gone there at all if I would have known, I saw the sign did not say the size, at that price, so I asked and she said 20lbs, so that is a lie! This is quite a scam rhino and walmart have going.
I swear it isnt just people out there ripping off other people, businesses are just as bad, making packaging smaller with same price, hiding what you are really getting.
They are scammers !!

I would also encourage you to make a call to the Attorney generals office, you are paying for a product that is weighed and advertised at 20#s yet it is not, that is bait and switch, IMO. Good luck.

True as it is not WM fault at al They just allow Blue Rhino to sell it product at WM, WM has no way of knowing how they are filled etc. That is Blue Rhino, who is at fault.

Nope that will do no good.
Look What I found on Blue Rhino's Web Site.
Quote:
How much propane does Blue Rhino put in its tanks?
Inflationary pressures, including the volatile costs of steel, diesel fuel, and propane, have had a significant impact on the cylinder exchange industry. In 2008, to help control these rising costs, Blue Rhino followed the example of other consumer products companies with a product content change. We reduced the amount of propane in our tanks from 17 pounds to 15 pounds.

So this notice is on the web site, they will not get fined.
Sorry But that is what I found on the web site.
Now granted SOMEWHERE on there display that Notice Should Be Displayed~! And I bet WM never knew anything about it, as it looks like it has been going on for 2 years. So like one person said don;t buy Blue Rhino pre-filled Tanks.

Its common that trade-ins are only 15 pounds. I would not waste my time on such issues. Here is what I recommend. Go to a junk yard and buy an old tank for 4-5 bucks. Trade it in for a reconditioned tank thats 3/4 full. Once it is empty, refill it at 20 pounds.

WM is not selling the tanks, They are selling a Blue Rhino tank which is Blue Rhino company is. That is Blue Rhino's Display, not WM's, it is BR locked storage area.
It is taken care of by a Blue Rhino's area distributor.

Is Blue Rhino the kind of tank that cannot be filled at the propane dealer because of a special valve?

Have a good day!

I only take in older tanks that can't be refilled at the local propane palace, to the 'exchange' places, like wallyworld and the various grocery stores. I get a 'new' refillable tank, and it's filled by weight, while I'm watching.

My husband has always refused to buy the tanks at the grocery store - he takes ours to a propane company. I always thought he was just being stubborn - I owe him an apology.

I worked at a local propane place for years...Not blue Rhino. They can not fill a 20lb tank to 20lb because of expansion. OSHA rules. BUT they can fill to 18 lbs. Never is a LP tank filled full no matter what the size. Our standard was 90% but then again we only charged for the actual amount that was put in it. EX for 500 gallon tank we never put more than 450 gallons in it.

On not filling a propane tank completely: During one of the hotest periods last summer I took my 100-lb tank to be refilled. Next morning shop smelled of propane. Call Co-op where it was filled and they said the worker had overfilled it and it was venting off the excess.

I fill my own tanks from my bulk LP tank, costs me about $6.00 or less and I don't have to run anywhere. Since there is some loss when filling a single tank I have six spare ones and fill them all at the same time.

I take mine to a place where they reuse the tank I bring in. they do it under my nose. I lift them in and out of my truck.

I use BR tanks when camping , that way I can exchange them , plus I got the 6 of them in a storage locker auction I won for $ 25 .
I learned about the BR tanks a while ago , it's all over the RV Forums . Bob
