Buckstove won't draw...
Just pulled out the old buckstove to find out why it won't draw well. Appears a long metal sheet was rusted and broken off, (not sure where this part went). It was solid, but thin, and about 6"x about 20". At present there is just the opening approx 18" by 3" that lets the smoke out into the chimney. Nothing around it.
I built a small fire on the fireplace floor (after pulling the buckstove most of the way out), and it drew very well. No smoke entering the living room. When I pushed the buckstove back in it just smokes and burns only marginally. My hubby had added a whole other section of clay tile(approx 24") to the top of the chimney a few wks back, and bricked around it, in the hopes it would aid in the drawing process. Didn't work for the stove it appears.
Has anyone had a similar problem? Would it be smart to try and make a small flue to go over the rectangular opening coming from the buckstove out ? Maybe going up into the chimney as ways? Thanks for any help !
