Great TV Series Recommendation

Herrick Kimball, aka "The Deliberate Agrarian", recommended a BBC TV series viewable on youtube called Victorian Farm. Wow - what an excellent series! I started watching the episodes last night and they are really fascinating. Just type in "Victorian Farm" on youtube and you'll find them. Each youtube clip is about 10 minutes long. Really neat stuff that I thought everybody on here would enjoy.

The other show that I really liked was Coal House, The War Years (or something like that). It isn't necessarily "homesteading", but it is a facinating look at what the Brits went through during WWII. There are 8 episodes of that on you tube. It takes place in Whales. Victorian Farm was great, too.

We have been watching them as part of 'school'. Takes forever to get through them because we keep stopping to discuss stuff.
The effects of mass production farm tools on individuals, why the hayers rebeled as the threshing machines became more popular, why tiles are a good roofing material, the changes brought to farms by the canals.. oh it just goes on and on..
and how bad it be to pour water over yourself in a room where you can see your breath.

I want the pantry!! Oooh.. the pantry!

I'd be curious to try some of the cider they made - no yeast, no sanitizing, nothing. Crush apples, cider into cask, done. Hmmm.....

I confess, I wasted a whole afternoon and evening and watched them all! LOL
The kids will be watching them also. I thought they were fantastic.

One thing I was surprised about was that they seemed to 'pull' every lamb. The old breeds of sheep mainly lamb naturally with no help. As ours do.

We started earlier tonight and are about halfway through.
Got our Marine friend interested in buying the DVD set so he can watch it with his family.
