Is it possible to recharge regular alkaline batteries?

I have seen some chargers touting that. Any experience?

Thanks

It's not possible. The chemical reaction that gives you the power is not reversible by applying power in the reverse direction.

I believe there is a type of rechargeable alkaline battery, but I believe they don't work the best. Better to use NiMH if you need rechargeable.

Yes, they can be recharged with a special charger made for that purpose. Don't try a regular (NiCad or NiMi) charger -- won't work. The problem I found when I recharged alkaline batteries is some would begin to leak very quickly--but this was 12+ years ago. The newer chargers might do a better job. You can extend the life of alkalines 4-5 times using the chargers. Someone recently reported he had purchased a charger for $14.99 -- perhaps in the S&EP forum. You might want to check on his (her?) experience.

There are specisl rechargable alkaline batteries, and they work with the alkaline chargers.

Nothing in that will work with a regular disposable alkaline - at least not properly.

Here's the link to the charger mentioned in the S&EP forum. I was wrong about the price. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-206-_-Product

This will charge regular disposable alkaline batteries. If you get one, be sure and check the batteries carefully as they can leak. Then again, a couple of weeks ago a NiCad battery ruined my wireless mouse when it sprung a leak.
If you are adventurous, try this site for a built it yourself design:

Yes they can be recharged. Sometimes successfully. Have also seen them explode while recharging. If it was an emergency situation I might give it a try. If not I would go with rechargeable NiCad or NiMh
