one gallon gasoline can for chainsaw?
Ok, my Blitz plastic wonder cracked. It was like $3 and lasted 3 or 4 years... Looked today and they wanted $8 for similar plastic gas can only with some complicated plastic spout system. I want to fill my chainsaw, not some space ship... I dont mind re-engineering stupid designed stuff if its cheap enough, but $8 plus tax for a little plastic throwaway?
No Gott or Eagle one gallon heavy steel cans to be seen. Suppose they are $50 anymore if they still exist on the market and betting they arent vented properly. Rusty junk gas cans on ebay being sold for decorations!!! What nut wants a rusty gas can on their livingroom end table??
So what are you folks using for chainsaw gas can?
Anybody make one themselves? I've toyed with idea of welding two 2 1/2 qt stainless sauce pans together and weld on a spout and fill access. Seems like lot hassle, but really like something that works well and I dont have to replace every couple years cause its made out of non-durable material.

I used a coping saw right where the angle of the spout bends and enlarges. Cut it off, reached down with a sharp chisel and sliced off the retainer inside. No more spring loaded thingey to fight with......

Gee you can still get maybe you have to go to 2 Gallon plastic can but that is what I have so I can mix oil easy, and also use it for my weed eaters. And the fill tube thingy is not that bad a deal at all. But they do have replacements that can be switched over to one that bends, and has a screw cap on the end.

Where, I've looked almost everywhere? Let us know, I would like to find one. Anything I've found, the threads or the sizes don't match. The spring loaded ones have to be held down while you try to pour gas into the saw--nearly impossible to do without spilling(which is what the danged thing was designed not to do--spill....)

I guess the new plastic cans now have a auto stop thing on them. This must have been a change over the the last 3 years. As that is when I bought 2 plastic cans one 5 gallon and one 2 gallon, both have the plain pouring spout that flexes, and I can still buy replacement spouts for those cans as I just did a few months ago, as they do break in the bends in cold weather when I fill my snowblower. But gee I just went out and tried one of those Spill Prove Spout B & S, and the treads are the same and fit my cans that have bought 3 years ago.

You can pick up an older metal one around here at an auction for a buck or 2. We got our plastic 1 gallon one at Lowe's for $5.

i have an eagle metal can and even saw them for sale just a few years back when i bought my chainsaw but i already had the 20 year old eagle that works great 3 years ago they were about 35 dollars but you have to go to an industrial supply house to get them.
department stores and most shoppers can't appreciate a quality steel gas can with heavy spring and mechanism.

What I did was to change the cap and hose for the one that you have to fight with the spring. It worked. I always use plastic not metal.

You can get some metal NATO style cans at deutsche optik. I ordered some of the big 20L cans from them last year and they are nice. Pricey but nice.

I use a detergent bottle. Perhaps not elegant, but it hasn't melted away yet and the pour spout works great. Any dribbles go right back into the bottle.
I found a one gallon plastic gas can without a spout for 50 cents but apparently spouts to fit the older cans are no longer being made -- at least I couldn't find one.

The spring ones can be "Jerry Rigged" so they will "act" like the older ones. Just twist off the spring inside the cap. I just did this, and it will then Pour Without Pushing the spout down to open the valve. Take off the TOP spring by twisting with a plier, and then put the new style spout on the can and pour like always. I just did this and it works.

Are they still making 1 gallon detergent bottles? I thought they all had concentrated the liquid laundry detergents and now biggest bottle is half gallon??
I used to use detergent bottle way back, but though the bottle held up fairly well, if I remember, I had trouble with the caps.

You can use a 1gal antifreeze or oil container. The spouts they sell at WM and such will fit them.

I like the NATO 5L can but at $37 plus the stainless steel spout at $23. OUCH!
The JustRite can seems little better design than the Eagle, but couldnt find price on their spouts. Couldnt find spout at all for the Eagle. And again the prices... OUCH!
If whole can was high quality stainless steel, then ok maybe, it would at least last until it got stolen.

Try using one those plastic jugs you get auto windshield wiper fluid in. Mine tend to last a couple years at least. I don't leave the gas in my saw anymore since alcohol got in there so I just dump it back in with a funnel. Those gallon jugs work well enough and you have a steady supply of new ones as needed if you drive at all. Another good can is a gallon or half gallon maple syrup jug. The gray ones that you see in the stores with the real maple syrup. They last about as long.
Funny your blitz cans only lasted a few years. I have some that are well over 12 years and although turning a bit whitish they still work ok. They changed the legal requirements for gas cans a couple years back and they got expensive and nearly useless with their anti spill nozzles. Give me the old ones any day. I have a plastic German 5 litre can made in 1974. Strangely it is still just as good as back then. They must be getting better at making things not last than they used to.

Actually I have some nice 5qt oil jugs that I keep to put used motor oil in, some of them with the big lid. Drill hole in lid and use old curved metal tire valve stem minus its core for spout and a straight valve stem minus its core for vent on other side of bottle back of the handle. Yea can see that working. Should be enough flow for filling a chainsaw where it has proper vent when pouring.

gasohall in my saw , no, thats the one time i buy premuim with no ethenol i even go so far as to put a gallon of premium in my truck first to purge the hose then i fill my can
as far as the eagle i don't use a pour spout i use a funnel with a brass screen in it.
i got my eagle can from a freind some years ago it was his and many many years old already and i have to say worth the 35 bucks
keep it clean and dry in the shed or garage , only store good mixed fule in it and it should last near as long as me and i see they do have them in stainless

Lets see now for the last 5 years I have used nothing but E!0 in my Chainsaw, my weed eater, for the last 14 years and my snowblower for the last 12 years and except for one sticky needle valve in the snowblower, and not have had any trouble with any thing even my 14 year old lawn mower. Which I did rebuilt the carb once in all those years.
And I never ever drain ANY fuel out, nor do I use any of that stabil stuff, and ALL have started after sitting all winter, all summer and sometimes for years as in my brush cutter. And the gallon of mixed oil and fuel I MAY use it up after 2 years and then mix some more some mixed oil/gas may have gone as long as 2-1/2 years without adding new to the can. I just can't see why a few have so much trouble or make so much work out of things.
