Combo Micro / Convection Oven

Our over-the-stove Microwave gave out last week & I've been looking around for a replacement and saw some that were both a microwave AND a convection oven. I liked the idea of that as sometimes I just need to cook something small & it seems like the convection oven would work (and it cooks faster, right??).

Does anyone have one of these gizmos & how do you like them?

Thanks!

I used one in Britain at the cottage we rented. I loved it. I don't know why they are so hard to find here.

We bought this one to use in our trailer. It is fantastic. Seemed to be a bit high in price but after getting it and the savings on propane, it's been well worth it. Dyers is great to order from too.

Excellent, if pricey, choice, imo. They're great for just about anything except the things like pot roast that needs to sit and stew for hours. (but a crock pot works for that). But you know those things that you can't do in microwave because they come out tough or um..odd? That convection part is MADE for that

Just keep the instruction book right next to it for the first month. hanging on a long chain Lots of buttons to push and it takes a little time to get used to the convection bit.

Personally I hate it.

We have the combo micro/convec in the RV - I can't pop popcorn with the micro part because it burns the bag.

I like the convection part, but the micro part stinks.

I HATE IT

I loved ours, used the convection part a lot more than the microwave part but it was nice to be able to defrost foods or melt butter.

Any particular reason why?

What I'm hoping to get out of a new micro/convection is the ability to reheat foods (like a micro) but also cook a chicken or small roast in it more quickly than my regular oven. I'd also like to be able to bake a loaf of bread in it & wasn't sure if you could do that.

We bought a Sharp micro/convection combo over 5 years ago. The only problem we had with it the latch broke while in transit and had to get another one. Ever since it has worked beautifully. It bakes a mean loaf of bread. We had that problem with popcorn also but put the bag on a micro safe plate on the rack and that took care of it. I really love mine.

I've got one in the Kenmore Elite II when I built my house. Matched with the all stainless look. It's got a hood for the range below it too. Love the darn thing.

I've only rarely use it as a convection oven..BUT...when I do it was because it was a real life saver. When cooking huge meals and needing that extra oven, there it is, right ready for me. Makes thanksgiving and christmas much easier.

You have to spend the money and buy a really good one for it to be worth it though. Cheap ones have a tendency to be bad microwaves and that is what you'll probably use it for more. Get a goooood one. Like a KitchenAid, Kenmore Elite or Bosch. In terms of absolute best, the Bosch is the Rolls Royce of them all. They'll last forever. Second best is Kenmore Elite and then the KitchenAid.

Are all the micro/convection oven models the same size? I've been reading this thread because my mom's over the stove microwave broke & was thinking of getting her the micro/convection oven combo for christmas.
