Frozen Store Bought Vegetables Questions

1. Any ideas why the frozen vegetable prices have gone down from over $1.50 per bag to less than $1.00 per bag in the last couple of weeks?

2. Are any of the frozen vegetables genetically modified?

If the prices have went down, our local rip off market is not reflecting them!
I know that PicSweet brand claims not to do any GMO garbage but I am sure some of the others do. Don't know if you could look on line by brand and see?

My wife says that it's because lima beans somehow made their way into many of the bags of mixed frozen vegetables, so no one will eat them.

Several different kinds are 69 cents a one lb bag. Reason: Thanksgiving loss leader.

Yes.

Canned/frozen veggies are really low around the holidays. Baking staples too, and of course turkeys/ham. Generally a deal on eggs/milk as the days get closer, too.

Yep - loss leader. Same with canned veggies - here Del Monte/Libby's are .50 cents per can right now. Last year I bought a years supply, and I'm doing so again this year - especially since I was unable to can veggies this year.

Another note on the frozen - remember, you can dehydrate frozen veggies - I have done this with the big bags of mixed frozen veggies from Sam's and it is great for soups/stews - and easy to store in the cupboard.

All have been genetically modified or engineered through selective breeding over many centuries. The last one manipulated in a laboratory was discontinued in 1997 and not likely to have been found in frozen vegetables.

Probably shelf/freezer life, inventory turnover to make way for this year's crop, and loss leader combined for the holiday cooking. Remember they have front office staffs with the computers and codes to take advantage of, plus they make up their sales fliers way in advance. If you watch closely, the sales usually take place on an annual basis. For example, Sara Lee pies always go on sale at this time.....

The veggies for the store are modified and chosen for certain attributes such as storage, shipping, etc. Taste is not high on the list.

Just stating the facts and telling the OP not to worry while using a minimum amount of explanation required to do so.

Exactly. The good coupons come out at the same time, and you can get tons of staples for free and pennies on the dollar.

They have been selectively bred but they have NOT been shot with a gene gun in the laboratory.

Exactly! Last, and only one, only lasted from 1994 to 1997.

Not necessarily! In fact, chances are very slim.

And the reason why I said "very slim" is that there could be a chance that someone might argue that they found something from Europe with corn products. Bt sweet corn IS legal there.

Sarabeth, do you put them in the dehydrater frozen or thaw them out first?
