electric co-op frustration

We are very frustrated! We have to be out of our temporary apartment in two weeks. All the other contractors have been great. The septic and well were in within a week of payment. The foundation was done quickly and the manufactured house was set on Monday. Our electrician was out last night (with generator and flood lights) working on the electrical panel and such.

However.....the electric co-op has yet to bring in the poles from the neighbor's land! We have paid them, the easements are signed the trees have been trimmed on the right of way. The electrician will be contacting the inspector within the next day or so but we have to service to connect to!!!

They are the only game in town. I wish we had the money fro solar and wind because off grid is sounding better and better.

Any ideas on how to get the co-op moving.

I am open to serious and humorous suggestions because we could really use a laugh.

Not to fear, they'll get 'er done before next week. (Deer season starts.....)

Your electrician is your best friend, he should call for service hook up(he's worked with them before and has their cell numbers....)----and the elec. co-op can't and won't tie into your wires until there's an inspection tag on the breaker box or window. Setting the poles and hanging the entry cable is a half to one day job with two trucks and four guys.

Can't sweat it - they'll show up when they're good and ready! Living in the country/small burgs means you're at their mercy. You have to move at their pace, not yours....

Did you try to contact them?

Having at least a line of communication helps. They may not be aware of your schedule. Your schedule may not matter either, but unless they know, they may have other tasks, that could be rescheduled.

Call em.

Bummer! We love our co-op, they give better service than KCP&L ever thought about. Try calling and talking to the chief of the department and make sure they are aware of your situation.

I filled out the paperwork to change from regular service to the local co-op about three years ago. Never EVER heard from them again.

Since you are short on time why don't you buy or borrow a generator to get by till they hook you up ? If you buy one , they come in mighty handy when the power goes out . That's what I'd do .

Is there any place around where you can rent one if you need to? If you can go this route, make sure it has 220v as your well will not run on 110V, not any that I know of, anyhow.

Or, you may want to purchase one or at least have one in mind so that if the power is not on by the day you need it you will have water, refrigeration, etc.

As far as installation goes, I can attest to the fact that a crew can have it installed a lot faster than you think they can. We currently live in the city and have the poles replaced around us all the time, due to drunks deciding that they need to be changed out (just had one replaced at end of drive last week.)

Good luck and keep us informed of the progress.

Contact your local county commission. They can put some pressure on the co-op. That's what they are there for.

Yeah, we like the co-op WAY better than KCP&L.

I second the idea to contact the commission.

Alice, did you contact them to ask where your paperwork went? I assume it's the same co-op?

We moved up to our current location, we put in a mobile home to live in for a year or so while we built. Had applied for electric service months before, so the week before the MH was to arrive, they sent two guys, a case of dynamite and a set of LONGGGGGG handle post hole diggers up, and they dug one hole per day. Dig/shoot 1/2 stick/cleanout/shoot and so on. One a day was their goal.

"Don't you guys have an auger truck ? "

"Yeah.....but they are scared of all the rock up here....don't want to damage it."

The day the mobile home arrived, here came about 6 power company trucks to string line.....it was a zoo on our little drive way with them and the mobile home delivery !

My electric co-op is great, great service and very short down times if there is a problem.
