Deer Season

It's coming on that time again.

And once again, I'll be working terrible amounts of overtime with no days off. Soooo, no hunt for me!

I do miss the healthy qualities of wild caught game. So, I'm wondering. Anyone near me that is going out for deer that wouldn't mind maybe talking to me about their extra meat and an envelope in the pocket? LOL

I would have put this on the barter board, but it isn't quite a barter and not many go there regularly. Hope I didn't break any rules.

Mam if I was closer you could have all my extra. We usually take around 12 deer each yr. After the freezer is full, I take a few and give to those that can't keep enough to eat. I give after processing an older couple he is 90 yr and his wife is 88yr old 1-2 deer each yr . The lady is allways give me jam and jelly, I also give them old hens each yr as well.
I was brought up to help those that have a hard time providing for them selves. Last week end a couple of friends and I took them a load of wood and my cousin brought 3 oak logs by today when he came in form the woods. We will go up this coming weekend and cut it up and split, stack the wood for them

Started Saturday morning here... have seen only does (they're legal, but I try and convince everyone local not to shoot them... not many deer, killing off breeding stock is stupid).

So, no fresh meat here yet... although I did bring home a road kill doe this evening. All my dogs are sleeping on their backs, paws up!

Talk to your local law-
I've enjoyed some truly excellent roadkill.

That's illegal in Virginia, as well as most other states

Ah Christy that's too bad. I feel for you! That's one reason why I hated working full time, seemed I never got to enjoy life. I use to work for a major Electrical contractor and seemed whenever a holiday came around we would be working overtime in some plant that was shut down for the holidays and needing major repairs made while their workers were off. Glad I don't work for them anymore.

Well I live to far to take on your offer but I might could send you a strip of deer jerky in a envelope. However, if you check with your local processors they will probably have some deer to sell you. Hunters often drop their deer off to be processed and never come back for it. Basically all they want is their money and don't care who they sell it too. Check in with them and they will probably put your name down on a list. Good luck!

You may want to check local processors. I know that I just stopped in a processor up the road from me. (They are Amish) They said that every year they get a few deer dropped off that people don't claim and all they ask is that you pay the processing fee.

Totally legal as you aren't paying for the meat and it works for both them and you. Even though I will be hunting, I added my name to the list.

yup you can give it away but you cant sell it, dont know how legal barter would be?

seed spreader yes and no, they have to do a few things to make it legal
at least in Pa, if they dont it can bite you as you purchased it in violation if they did not do their part. you also need a valid permit, I would assume one that wasnt punched as being valid.

OP might consider contacting local FHFH. That's the organization that processes deer and gives to folks to eat. Don't know what the qualifications are to receive. Good luck to all and BE SAFE!

I'm sure we can fix you up, just sharing, no barter. We will get started on Saturday, I am sure there will be extra, a couple of friends also have damage permits for local subdivisions and struggle with disposing of them. HFH butchers will only take so many. I am near Charlottesville.

Wish I could load up a semi full and ship them down to you! Season has started here and I saw a buck standing by the road (lots of traffic) in the middle of the day. The deer have just gone crazy (reproducing) around here.

On Sunday, we saw 10 deer in a field beside a highway, these were the live ones. Seems when we were driving, there was a dead one lying by the side of the road every 5-10 miles or so. Deer population is just crazy here.

I went through about 8 hours of internet training and another 4 hours of classroom training. I spent about $75.00 to get my hunting license and a deer tag, and never saw a deer. Deer hunting season has ended here.

I think it is because we didn't have an apple crop this year. When we do have a crop, our orchard has deer in the mornings.

Our whitetail deer herd has been hit hard by a couple deep snow winters, not many around , experts say as much as 1/2 the states herd may have died off
and will takes years for them to recover fully.
However, a local kid shot a black whitetail recently, extremely rare.
