The old John Deere M

I posted about this tractor a month or so ago. Well, hubby went and got it yesterday.

The man actually reduced the price even more for us, which was very nice of him.

Anyway, a few pictures of her current condition:

Scroll down for the first picture, when he'd just arrived home with her.

If you need any help working the bugs out or finding parts get registered on
Johnny popper. com and ask around the tractor shed. There are some pretty sharp JD 2 cyl guys there, been a big help to me at times.
Good luck with her ! Been married to my M 20 years now. (the wife is ok with her though.)

That is a nice little tractor, hope your son and hubby enjoy it. I was just down to the John Deere Commons in Moline Illinois(home of John Deere) yesterday with a good buddy. Sure enjoy looking at the old tractors, not so much the new ones, but they have those too. > Marc

I like your blog as well. I am going to hopefully find me a new-to-me 8n next spring. I saw your Autumn Olive post. I collected old Organic Gardening magazines and have a good deal of them from teh 60's-80's and their are multiple articles in them extolling the virtues of both Autumn Olive and Kudzu even tho nowadays they are considered pernicious weeds. Back in the day I guess they were imported as beneficials.

Yes both tins, top and front cover came with it. Just off for cleaning.

Salmonslayer, you made my day with the pie comment! Especially knowing how much you like old tractors. We enjoy your blog so much, since Ken is also recently retired from the military (army), we seem to have a lot in common.

Woodsy, thanks for the link! Is that the name they give to these types of tractors?

Not familiar with the 8N. Will look it upafter supper. Hope you find a good deal. With so much going on, I haven't harvested the Autumn Olive. We had a couple of frosts over the weekend, so they have probably sweetened up now. I need to get out there and pick them.

I'll post updates on the old girl as the guys bring her back to life.

Thanks Pauline the similarities struck me also (I too am a volunteer Fire Fighter and First Responder...just seemed like something I should do to give back to the community after retiring). We have more enthusiasm than knowledge and we get so many great ideas from following blogs like yours and sites like this and we have your blog on our favorites.

I am like Derm, I am also looking for a restorable 8n in the spring to keep my 1948 AC WC company and I will warn you, old tractors are addictive. Wait to you hear your JD M run correctly out in your fields...its a sound that will please your whole family.

I looked up the 8N. It really is a nice tractor. Look forward to seeing the one you get.

Can see the addiction potential!

My dream is a "B" series Mac truck.
