Is my new stove LP or NG??

We picked up a fairly new stove at an auction a month or so ago, but I don't know if it's LP or NG. In my area, it could easily be either and of course, being an auction find, there's no owner's manual or anything.

How can you tell?
I've looked for some kind of identifying tag or label and come up empty.

There should be a regulator either on back or underneath the top of the stove that has a device that you can switch from Lp or Ng. And it should be stamped on their. It's been so long since I've had a gas range I can't rightly remember just what it looks like.

You generally have to change the jets. Mine came set up for propane, but had the jets for NG screwed to the underside of the stove top (GE brand ) so they could be swapped out.

You might also Google for a manual. There are a LOT of them online from manufacturers.

Generally if an appliance is set up for LP there is SUPPOSED to be a sticker (applied by the tech who installed it) stating that it is set up for LP. Look for a sticker near the jets or regulator. Was it a home or farm auction, or was it a consignment sale? If you bought it from the location it was used then you should be able to figure out which fuel source was used.

This is true but problem is they sell them at big box stores and let the buyer make the adjustments and we don't have stickers.

Have your gas guy install the right jets. That's what we did, called the propane company and they sent a guy out at no charge to do ours. Usually they have the appropriate jets too.

If you have propane, call the propane guy and ask them to hook it up for you and check to see if it was converted. If you use Natural Gas, call the gask company and ask them. The guys doing this have seen hundreds or thousands of installs and some conversions. They should be able to help.

When I got my stove it was set up for natural gas. I converted it to propane and as Old country boy stated there is a regulator that the gas supply line hooks to you can usually tell by the position of the regulator top weather it is gas or propane. Note just changing the jets wont work as the regulator has to be set too.

As noted above, have your propane supplier check it out. Mine is my neighbor, and he has coverted/checked every gas appliance for me before placing it in service. It has never been a big deal to switch between NG to LP on anything I bought.

About your dealer and "they should do it for nothing" (checking and/or hooking the stove up) that some of the posters mentioned
Just bought a new gas stove from Lowes. The stove came provided with a kit to convert it from NG to propane - labels also........
I called Suburban Propane up (my dealer) and asked if'n they would install the kit - yea for a $99 service call plus $99 for installing the kit. Needless to say I installed the kit of 5 nozzle changes and resetting the regulator. Oh and slapped on a conversion label near the regulator.
Only paid the $99 for a service call which included hook-up, adjustment of the stove, and a leak test. The old stove and the new stove just were not compatable in hook-up or I would have done that myself also, but now I know it's right and adjusted correctly.
So things these days most likely are "no longer free" just because......

I got mine new for $350 at home depot. It's like this one, only I got it in black.

http://www.homedepot.com/buy/applian...nge-23386.html

It comes setup for natural gas, but includes a propane conversion kit. The conversion is simple. I did it myself.

By the way, this range doesn't use power. In fact it doesn't have a power cord at all. Burner and oven ignition are by pilot lights. It takes a little getting used to without an oven light though.
