Looking back over the last 9 months

In Jan, I told the City that I needed time off because of health issues. I had the vacation and comp hours to work half time beginning in March. So Sweetie and I moved out here to the cabin full time. We planned out what we wanted to do, now we are figuring out what works and what doesn't. We are off grid, have a small 24 volt refrigerator and I built the springhouse, all good there. The smoke house has been busy. The 2 dehydrators, 1 12 volt and 1 solar have been going almost non stop all summer and fall. Now for the garden, we had a late and wet spring. Things came late but excellent crops. Fall crops better than expected. Berries kept producing all summer and still going. We have had a few showers for the last month and a half so haven't watered. Corn has been late but 2 big filled out ears each stalk, tomatoes were loaded and although late are excellent. I have 20 quarts of sun dried tomatoes. We didn't bring the freezer, left it in town at the house with our daughter. That plan didn't work out. We had so much that we froze for later and the kids (even though they told us not to) Can't let anything go to waste. HA HAA. We have dehydrated twice what we planned, smoked a lot of meat and canned double what we need. The chickens have given us plenty of eggs, the rabbits produced....well like rabbits and the goats kidded at the right times and have given lots of milk. The hay is in, grain put away and all went as planned. We will make a few changes and it should be easier next year as we won't plant near as much. I hope it is a long fall and a good winter. We are ready for anything....James

I am staying out here full time (except for the time at the "little" cabin). Daughter is living in our house in town, it will be hers someday anyway. I am working half time through Dec, I will see after that. Depends on my hip, if I need a replacement I have 1200 hrs of sick time for that. I was off this week, will work next week and then off the next. Nov and Dec will be mondays and fridays off some weeks will be thursdays also....James

We live full time at the "big" cabin. It is 2 miles from town. Our "little" cabin is 8 miles south and west from here....James
