Solar gary

Wow, I was looking at another post here about building a garage and saw your article from Mother Earth news. I read that yr.s back and modeled my buildings on your solar heater. I have one on my greenhouse shop and my cabin. I am off grid so was looking for an easy to build and power conservative method. I do use a small fan to circulate the heat into the cabin from the airlock porch/entry. The heat rises from the heatsink and the 12 volt fan pushes the air through a 3" tube to a register in the wall. The one worked so well on the cabin I used the same principle on my Shop/greenhouse. The south wall of the greenhouse is the heater and thermostaticly actuated colestory windows let the heat into the shop when it gets too warm in the greenhouse. Works very well. I want to thank you for that article. Who knew (probably everyone) this is you....James

Hi James,
Great to hear the article helped out.

My neighbor and I did an article thats in the current Mother Earth -- its on a solar heated stock tank. Lots of the input for the final version she is using came from this Homesteading Today.

This is the one that CS (from Homesteading Today) did:
