Talking Renovations approaching completion

Well, it's been a long time coming, but there is finally light at the end of the tunnel
We've added on 2 additions to our house. One, is a 10 x 17 mudroom/entrance. Prior to this, we walked directly into the livingroom NOT GREAT when you have dirty duck boots on!! Or when the winds are blowing the snow into the house!
so, it's time to figure out how to make the most of this room. It will have an entrance directly to the basement. The ceiling height is 11 ft I know there will be storage benches but does anyone have any great ideas about making the most of this type of space?

The other room is 13 x 31 - south facing with large fixed windows AND our masonry fireplace for heating - FINALLY I'll get off the hydro grid (for heat anyway) (photos to follow once it's all done!)

Congrats on the progress.

A mudroom is a great thing to have- we had one when I was a kid. Coathooks and cubbyholes for everyone (with space underneath for the boots)! Better than simple coathooks on the wall is a bar so that you can use hangers- it's a much more efficient use of the wall space and you're not going to have that problem of trying to hang too many things on one hook.

A bench will help with all the shoe tying going on, too.

A house I once owned had the best mudroom - it had the washer/dryer in it, a half bath, and the phone. It also had a concrete floor with a drain in the middle - wonderful design. Door in from the carport, and one out the other side to front of the house - and one into the kitchen. Not having to walk into the house proper to use the facilities or phone was great.

My mudroom was designed for mud. I had a simple bathroom just inside the door and all the muck and woodchips and bits of straw stayed out of my house. I could strip down and de-filth myself after doing chores.

I also had a section of crates for the wet dirty dogs who needed a place to dry their paws and mucky tails before being allowed into the house.

That south facing room with big windows and a masonry heater is going to be incredibly warm...might be a nice place for a claw foot tub.
Yay for mudrooms..would be tough to live without one now.
