Hide your cabin in plain sight

Here's a different idea for a log cabin. I can see lots of potential uses for one of these: preps stored away from the house, building incognito (No cabins around here, Mr. Tax Assessor), disguised chicken house, hide your mother-in-law, good place for a still.

Clever! they could have rearranged the logs that cover joints rather than cutting them, so it isn't so obvious that it is a stack of logs, but still, clever.

Only flaw I see is that you just can't stack wood like that....
Not without something - real or fake - appearing to hold up the sides.

just stick it in between two trees. even so, that would probably draw more attention around these parts with the price of firewood being so high.

I can't see it, my computer threw a fit and claimed the site had malware.

That's a great idea to outsmart the revenuers who fly around looking for new buildings to tax.

Being on wheels, that one wouldn't be taxable anyway, but now I'm considering camouflaging my new sheds as I build them.

Thanks for the link, Chalk Creek!

Here you go, cornhusker, maybe these will show up...

You could stack other logs around it, or posts at the ends. But, you're right, it could use something to add to the illusion.

Yeah, the windows could be a little less obvious. To add to the illusion, stack some real logs around it, put and old buzzsaw by it, with sawdust and bark all over the ground.

My Norton popped up and said it had prevented an attack on my puter when I clicked on the site also.

Worked just fine for me. Cool idea! I agree with scattering wood around it and making it look like it is braced but from a distance I don't think anybody would think much about it except it is one huge log pile.

yikes, i'm glad my virus protection was just updated..

well You know what I thought when I saw this? It sure could be a way to disguise a shed that you really didn't want people messing with couldn't it..say something at the edge of your woods? I'm developing our woods and we have an old barn in the woods that really really really needs updating..and I could update it to look like a woodpile..by just slowly siding it with salvaged logs from the woods..and cut ends..and then put a shed roof over the top like it was to protect the pile of firewood..and no one would know the difference..cool idea..i'll think on that for that barn..it is about the size of a woodpile..just an old horse barn (in photos on my blog link)

Would possibly work... unless someone was out getting some firewood 'on the sly' and thought they'd found the motherload... a load of pre-cut logs ready to haul off.

The only way I'd not investigate further would be for the logs oriented such that they were between two trees, which would negate windows on those ends. Also helpful to have half an acre of downed wood, and several tons of slash, limbs, and bark lying around. If I saw a neat stack of wood like that, without any sign of cutting or hauling, I'd think hmmmm....

Of course, I've seen pics of the camo log hut before... and if I were an evil person, I'd "know" I hit the jackpot... either a place someone thought was hidden and full of hunting or camping gear... or a nice hut that'd look good winched up on the back of a trailer and hauled to 'my hideout'.

Best camo is to have zero 'sign' that anything might exist off the road and up that trail... and if someone did drive up all the way, the building wasn't visible... as in behind a stand of deep timber, or behind large slash piles, or shrubbery. Best if there's not even a trail up to it...

Take the "hut" and replace it with a stack of similar sized logs

Wouldn't that be quite the surprise late at night when the owner came up with his buddies to hunt after a long week at work
