Regional Forum please
I'd like to suggest a new forum. How about somewhere that people can go and list where they are located? Classified by country first and then region.
I'm about to move to yet another homestead in yet another part of the country. Sure would be nice to be able to get in touch with like minded folks in my new area.

TxMex,
Just start a thread asking questions about the area, or search the forums for a thread calling for an Arkansas "roll call" or "check in."
Folks in Arkansas have a meet-up every year, and it sounds like they have a blast.
You'll be in good company down there, they seem to be a very friendly group!

Yes, I know that is how it is done now, but that thread scrolls off the screen after about a week. When you go looking for it again, you aren't sure if folks are still in that area or not.
I just thought it would be nice to have a region by region list of folks(completely voluntary of course) that maybe also lists their interests. If you move from that area you could move your name to your new region. Also, lets say I need to make a trip from Arkansas to Iowa and I am currently looking for a specific type of rabbit. I could go through the regions between here and there and see if anyone is a breeder of that particular type of rabbit. Just something to think about.

Might also be handy for folks to have a regional place to ask about things that are regional in nature, same climate zones, laws etc.

In the upper part of any post there is a location. I have mine as Arkansas. I live about 150 miles away from where you are going. And yes we in Arkansas are friendly bunch and have fun along the way.

Why not just start a thread for your region such as "Arkansas Quadrant 4 September 2010" ?
Quadrant 4 meaning you set up 4 quads localize the input. When the thread drops off either search the exact title, titles only or have it bookmarked.

If you look on the drop down menu across the top of the page, you'll see "community". Under that is "social groups". ANYONE can go into that and set up a GROUP that is sort of a mini forum.
LadyCat started one a while ago, I think...
Anyway..that would be a great place to set up regional "groups". I wouldn't suggest 1 for each state, but maybe a SE, NE, North central, south central, NW, and SW?
Then put out the word in this forum, maybe CF, and see what kind of response you get.
Adding a whole new forum to HT for each region is pretty much unnecessary. It's a lot of coding work, a lot of hassle, and we already have a LOT of forums to sift through daily. The community thing is set UP for just what you want to do.

Where are you gonna live in AR?
As many people that we have on this forum, there should be no problem answering just about anything.
As far as info about a town, city, state, city data is very good for searching/posting specific questions. As far as being like-minded, might not help with that, but you never know.
Also, on backyardchickens.com, there is a sub-forum about locations. Just an example.

If you want regional, go to Gardenweb.com. I absolutely HATe the proliferation of forums and subforums. Back when it was one forum I would frequently see interesting threads on animals, cooking, fibers etc. Now with the proliferation of forums I barely have time to check CSF and HT, rarely Alt Energy. I don't HAVE animals but I used to pick up odd bits of information in my daily forum check against the day I might get them. Now, it's been segregated away from my areas of usual interest. Again, try Gardenweb, they have regional forums, state forums, flower/shrub/or vegie furums-

You can also go to the top of the page, click on communities, then click on members and scroll down through the list. If members have listed their state, you can pm them and see if they are interested in starting a social group for your state or area.
There is also the opportunity to start your own yahoo or google group, separate from HT, if you want. This would allow you to get messages from people without actually logging in to HT and checking your private messages. It could be set up to allow new members who haven't even heard of HT, but have similar interests.
Good luck!

I traveled through Arkansas once from Michigan to Texas via LA..and although it was late in the evening in March when we went through, we both commented on how beautiful the state was..gorgeous..I love Michigan and would never leave, but I was struck by the beauty of the state
