Dingo VS Weasel: Dingo Wins!

Our ACD Dingo, managed to catch and kill a long tailed weasel today near one of our outbuildings. Needless to say, he made short work of the little creature and after reading up on how well they keep mice and ground squirrels under control, I was a little sad to see it go.

I have no experience with this weasel but noted afterwords that Dingo was frothy mouthed and ran into the shed and hid for a minute before he emerged and began rolling around in the grass as if trying to rid himself of a nasty smell. We had to agree, that little weasel stank almost as bad as a skunk!

Do these animals have scent glands that they let loose when in danger? Or did it happen to just urinate on him when he chomped down on it? My worst fear is that it somehow bit him. His shots are up to date but if it did I would like to pop a few doggie antibiotics that I keep on hand down him so he doesn't get an infection.

I tried to find data on them but there isn't much mention of them spraying.

Anybody have any experience with Long Tailed Weasels that you could pass on to me?

Weasels are members of the family Mustelidae, which consists of Weasels, skunks, martens, fishers, ferrets, mink, and otters, and others. They have anal scent glands. They eat rodents, birds, and on occasion poultry.

Yeah, I read something about the poultry part of their diet. I was a little sad to see the little devil go because the shed he was hold up in has a mouse problem but when I read that I was kinda glad he got Dingo-ized since I'm planning to start some chickens next spring.

Blessedly, the smell has worn off over the weekend and didn't last as long on the dog as skunk scent usually does. It was definitely a different smell than skunk. Very unpleasant almost like a rotting flesh smell.

I hope it was a he weasel and not a she weasel that left a bunch of little weasels for us to have to worry about. This is the first one we have seen but usually where there is one there are more.
