Anyone finding Hen of the Woods mushrooms?

We just got a good rain in the West Plains, Missouri area. We used to find them in NW Indiana mid September to mid October, but I haven't found any here, yet. Is this a good time to look for Grifola frondosa (Maitake) mushrooms?

I miss my canned mushrooms!

My wife and I just went out in the woods. We found 9 of them ranging from fist sized to bigger than my head. All nice and fresh. Also found some sulfur self. The woods is absolutely full of mushrooms this year. I wish I could identify more varieties.

We took this class about 9 years ago and learned a lot from it. It was well-organized, informative, interactive and fun - if I weren't otherwise committed, we'd be going.
That would be cool. I have a hunch I have to work next weekend.

I'm an hour's drive west of WP, near Ava, Mo. I found one big clump of Chicken of the Woods a couple of weeks ago. It was the first one I've found here that wasn't too old to be good in the 10 years I've been here. I spotted it from well over 100 yards away and without having my glasses on. There just is no mistaking that color when it's hanging from a dead log. I need to go look for more.
