Got my first gun!
After a spurr of the moment trip to the city, with a bit of tension and pressure from my family, I got my first gun! A Ruger 10 22! My family was pressuring me a bit to get a Remington 567, as it was the same price but included a scope, but I just didn't like it. I liked the Ruger, mostly for the wood stock. My dad said afterwards he was really proud of me for getting MY gun, and not the gun others wanted me to get! Now for some target practice....

Prediction: You will love this rifle.
It was my first rifle too (not counting a pellet gun). I still have it 30+ years later, and still shoot it. It's still accurate and as much fun as it was when I bought it. I had to replace the magazine a few years ago, but that's it. It's a great rifle to learn on, and will reward your efforts at breathing control, trigger squeeze and stance with excellent performance.
Shoot responsibly, and have fun.
P.S. You will have a greater sense of accomplishment learning to shoot well with iron sites than with a scope. I had a scope on mine for about a little while, but found I enjoyed iron sites more. For the ranges you will be using it, iron sites are fine.

Whatever you do, don't visit a webstore like Cheaper Than Dirt, they have hundreds of options and add-ons for your new 10/22.

Not to mention hundreds of other gun-related items to separate you from your money.

Haha, thanks for the website! I already got myself a banana clip to go with it! Actually my dad thought it would be a cool idea, as our friend she has one too, so he stuck it on his purchase...without my mom knowing of course

The best accessory for the 10/22 is a set of Tech Sights @ www.tech-sights.com. These use a military style aperture rear with an adjustable front post, and increase the sight radius (the distance from rear to front sights) by about 8". Instant accuracy increase! Note: I have no affiliation with the company other than being a satisfied customer. My wife has these on her 10/22 and I have them on my Marlin 795.

Congrats on the purchase!
My first gun, bought specifically for ME was a Marlin 39A 22. That was back in 2004 (after we moved to SD).
Then I found an older double barrel shotgun that reminded me of the one my Dad have, so I bought that one and the rest is history (I now have my Dad's old gun too).
This gets addicting - my most recent purchase was a Kahr 380 ACP - it will fit in my purse.
In between, I managed to snag a few more - for a while my husband was teasing me to belonging to the "gun of the month" club.

I disagree, Robbvious The best accessorry for your 10/22 is another 10/22 and the Gatling Gun conversion kit:

Congrats.

Hay CF
If you really want one, Cabela's sells the kit.
I agree with the above posters, a 10/22 is about the best semi-auto .22 around.

Somebody used to make one years ago that had 4 mounted together like that, but I can't find an example now.
