Rats! What's that tool called?

It's for breaking up soil, either compacted or sod. It has two long vertical handles, one for each hand, that extend downward where they are joined by a horizontal bar. The bar has lots of heavy tines coming from it, sort of like a potato fork on steroids.

What's it called? I need one.

It's called the U-Bar digging tool. It was developed by John Jeavons and Ecology Action. I know one of their books shows you how to make your own. Check their web site; they may sell them.

Broadfork -- they work really well if you weigh over 150 lbs. I've never been able to work one in hard soil effectively as I'm too light.

Broadfork-

Best used to aerate soil quality soil rather than break up really tough stuff.

Aha! I knew you folks would know! Yes, the U-bar is what I had in mind. Tough enough for what I had in mind.

Thank you sooo much!

*on my way to order*
