I have one and use it quite a bit. It does fine with grasses but where it really shines is in the taller/thicker weeds. It'll take care of multifloral rose, honeysuckle, poke weed, milkweed, etc just like a string trimmer through grass. The only downside for me is that the head is a bit heavier than a string trimmer head and it can get a little heavy after several hours of use.
I'm not real familiar with harvesting wheat. If you need to trim your wheat at any specific height or cut it with any kind of accuracy, the weight of the unit may make that difficult after some time. If the goal is to simply cut the stem at any point so that it can be raked/gathered later then I think it would work quite well.
