finding local online communities

Don't get me wrong, this place is great. But I would like to find an on-line community that has to do with my area and not necessarily about homesteading. Is there a place on the internet that is like that? That carries forums for cities/regions?

Both Yahoo & MSN have them. I bet AOL does too. in Yahoo, go to www.yahoo.com and click on groups ... you can search from there.

"Groups" is mailing lists. I went and checked and did find that there are quite a few for my area, although they don't have a lot of people. I also discovered that interests in my area appear to be less wholesome than I thought.

Yahoo also offered some message based stuff. But it seemed pretty unused for my area.

maybe if you just typed in " message boards (your town or state)"... maybe you'll come up with something...

Check to see if your local newspaper has a website, most papers have a forum, if not you might suggest it.

Google was of no help. I got lots of forums that were virtually unused.
