We get our chickens, turkeys, etc. from our local MFA feed store, but I've ordered from McMurrary with no problems and Cackle Hatchery, here in Missouri: http://www.cacklehatchery.com/

I am a very DIS-satisfied customer of Cackle and will never order from them again (lost 3/4 turkey poult order and was reimbursed for less than 1/4). Poults from McMurray same year were healthy and thrived.

I've heard good things about Mt. Healthy http://www.mthealthy.com/ , Ideal and Strombergs but haven't ordered from them yet. You might also want to check out eggbid.com

I find McMurray to be too expensive. I've used Heartland Hatchery and been very happy with them. Healthy chicks that are healthy birds today. I've also used Ideal with good success, healthy happy turkeys. I got my broilers from Welps and plan on using them again.

You can find all these hatcheries at poultryconnection.com

I grew up right next door to Mt. Healthy Hatchery. I have had no problems with any of their fowl.

My mom grew up in Kentucky 55 years ago(3 hours away from Mt. Healthy hatchery) and she said they always got their chicks from Mt. Healthy and when she moved to Cincinnati and got married she just happened to move next door to them (just always found that interesting).

Enjoy

What do you mean by put the turkeys back into the wild?
You mean set them free? Or just range them?

If you mean let them live in the wild, you cant do that. These are domesticated birds, with no sense of living in the wild, no instinct. Plus if you have the white turkeys, no kind of camoflage from predators!

My son hatched two wild turkey eggs out that his grandpa gave him and when they were grown they always stayed around the house with the other chickens, etc. When the wild turkeys came around they would chase them and didn't want to have anything to do with them.

Turning out domestic critters of any species is illegal. It infiltrates the wild ones with diseases and parasites and if cross breeding occurs messes up the natural immunities of the wild species. Please check with your local Fish and Wildlife office and obtain some information on this if you would. You will find it fascinating and educational. There is usually a specialist available who will gladly call you back to discuss the ramifications to wildlife of such actions. HAPPY HOLIDAYS....LQ

I've have heard alot of complaints about ideal. Alot of people say that they will order a certain breed and it will barely look like the breed at all. Short fat runner ducks, ect.
